I could use some help please.
I bought a 66 convertible malibu this summer for my wife and kids to cruise.
When we go over bumps or swells in the road that really compresses the back end of the car we hear a scraping sound. after some investigation it appears as the rear portion of the driveline is scraping the floor tunnel area.
I assumed the rear springs were wore out and replaced them with eibach lowering springs I bought from Jegs for a small block chevelle.
I am now wondering if my shocks are totally shot or are the springs I bought not strong enough??? Does a convertible need a heavier spring than a standard smallblock or is there something else wrong with the car???
any help I would appreciate.
Thank You Gordon

Do you mean the driveshaft is scraping? Could be the bushings in the rear control arms, if the springs were that bad, chances are everything (suspension) needs rebuilt. Check the transmission mount as well. Can we see some pics of the scraping?

Yes the driveshaft is scraping the floor pan tunnel area towards the rear of the drive shaft under the back seat right where the tunnel area ends. Hard to get pics as I have no hoist. The transmission mount and all that stuff appear to be right and stock.
