We'll I'm underway with the 72. Spent a fortune on a paint gun, DA, and sand paper, primer, block sander, etc.. etc.. Thanks again for all of your suggestions, it made making the decisisons on what to get so much easier. I was also lucky enough to go into the body shop supply place today when one of the outside sales guys was there. He was filling in for someone that was out sick and isn't normally in the store. He used to be in the actual business and was very helpful and informative. Even gave me his card so I could call him if I ran into any trouble.

I have had one success already. Today I removed the door hinges on the driver side, one at a time and rebuilt them. The top ones were so worn that even after installing the rebuild bushings and pins the elongated holes allowed to much slop so I welded around the holes, and then used the file I sharpen my chain saw blade with to file out the holes to a snug fit. After I had them back on I used a floor jack and a 4x4 wooden block to make final adjustments and they have never been better. No drop when you open the doors, smooth operation... I took advantage of the opportunity to clean up the jambs and hinges and sand them down for primmer while I had them off. I hope to do the other side on sunday...

Now for the guestion. The windsheild and rear window are out of the car and so is one rear side window. I have all new window felts and want to get the old ones out of the way until after I have the car painted. I will be having the glass installed professioanlly but, just so I don't screw it up, what is the proceedure for removing the side glass? Both front and back...

Thanks in advance for any suggestions you can make.

One of the best things you can do is try and find a Fisher Body manual for your car,if you don't already have one. This book will be invaluable as you work on your car. It has detailed diagrams of the window assembly and other stuff. It also gives instructions for adjusting and/or removing your glass. There is a lot of other info. in there you can use. These books can be found at swap meets and some are available as reprints from the restoration places. I used mine a lot when I did my 69. God luck!

Hey Prof
I got mine on the "E" word. You know the place, that auction site where there are more NOS parts than the general ever thought about making http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif
www.ebay.com (http://www.ebay.com)

Professor by all means get yourself a fisher body manual and a factory assembly manual. They can be found on ebay or resto companies like year one sell them, both sell for around 30 bucks.

To remove the glass you need to start out by removing the door panel. To remove it, start out by removing the arm rest should be four screws if I remember right. Now you need to remove the door handles, you need a special tool to remove those. Its called a handle remover and can be bought for around 5 bucks or so. Now on the door handles you will see a large plastic washer behind the handle, it protects the panel from the handle, you place the tool between the handle and the washer. There is little horse shoe shaped clip that holds the handle on, you must move the tool around until you feel it lock on the clip. Once you feel it lock, just push on the tool and the clip is now removed and the handle will come off.

Now with the panel off you can see the workings of the door. To remove the glass you need to remove two bolts that bolt it to the regulator. You might need to roll the window up or down to see those bolts but they should be right in plain sight. Now remove those bolts and lift up on the glass, you might have to tilt it left or right to get it out but they come out easily.

Professor. You could consider buying a CD from Detroit Iron through the TC shop. Sells for some 40 dollars, including Service, Overhaul and Parts manuals.
