I wanted to buy a set of Comp magnum roller tip rockers for my BBC 049 heads (2.19/1.88 valves, lunati springs .540/.550 lift cam) and replace the rocker studs withn ARP studs. I noticed that in the info on ARP studs they mention that the studs are not to be used with OEM style self locking nuts. The magnum rockers come with self locking nuts-are they also not compatible with the ARP studs. If so what is a good replacement stud that will work with these rockers. Thanks for any info.

At that lift, why not use stock studs? Either that or Crane makes some polylocks that are supposed to help oil the ball/cup. It's not that much more to go with full rollers - Harland Sharp aren't expensive and are very good quality.

I have stock studs from a peanut port head. I thought I might upgrade to ARP or some other quality studs. The price for new GM studs is nearly the same. Full rollers? a) I would like to use stock valve covers b) They are more expensive - stainless steel ones especially c) rightly or wrongly -there is a durability controvesy with aluminum full rollers for high milage street use d) Many people including people on this site have said there is no real gain in HP going to a full roller in my case- infact the person porting my heads with a lot of BBC expertise says stamped would still be OK for the street. I figure the Comp magnum has accurate lift ratio's, more so than stamped- at about $50 more than good stamped rockers and you get a roller tip and they are more durable than aluminum.

Caplin - If you like the comp magnums, take a look at the pro comp magnums - full roller and they fit under the short stock cover.
