Deadcarny

Picked up a 72 for a daily driver a couple weeks ago from a friend. There were a lot of bubbles under the non-factory paint, so I knew there was rust. I think I got a little carried away. The dang thing is now sitting with no interior, no front clip, and sanded at all the problem areas! Found out the RT quarter is FULL of mud! Looks like they filled a dent (lots of string cheese coming through drill holes inside where the 1/4 window goes). Anybody have anything in particular I need to look for (hidden trouble areas) while I have this thing stripped?

I see you're new - hello, and try the Body Shop Forum - lots of good info there.

on the 72, look at the floors under the rear seat, the floor where the brace runs under the front seat to the center tunnel. The trunk floors of course. In the trunk, look at the base of the rear window, particularly in the lower corners of the window. Look at the area where the quarter ends, just above the tail lights. Anywhere around the windshield and rear window under the chrome may be rusted because water gets trapped under there. The base of the front cowl on either side is also a place that often rusts out. Check out my web site, You'll see pictures of most of these areas and what is involved in fixing them. http://members.myactv.net/~cynthia.smith/
BTW, welcome. Nice to see another 72 owner here. Give me a shout if I can answer any questions for ya.
