Is there any problems putting a gm crate motor 454 aluminum head or gm 572 into a 1969 chevelle ss four speed, farm boys post got me to thinking, not to detract from his post, thanks in advance. With a carb, no fuel injection

There shouldn't be any problems, should drop right in if you have BB motor mounts, which I think you do. Am I right? I think if it was originally a small block ( I don't even know if they made 69 SS smallblocks, I don't think they did, I'm like 96.7% sure they didn't) so another BB should drop right in. I stay up TOO late!

Wait, if it was a small block, which I dont think it was, I believe you'd have to change the motor mounts, other than that, even still I think it should drop right in..RIGHT?! WTF, work, brain!!!

Rob - when deciding which one to use take this into consideration - the 454 crate will allow you to use all of your existing accessories. the 502/572 will need an electric fuel pump, and I've heard some people say they needed to rework their existing headers or purchase custom ones..... That was was enough to sway my decision.

Thanks for all of the good information. From what I have seen, the air cleaner to hood clearance is the biggest issue on fitting a 572 under a SS Hood. Since the 572 is a 'turn key' engine, I really don't want to change the intake. A shorter air cleaner with a drop base may be the only solution. Even though I obviously don't have a numbers matching ride, I am trying to make the car look original. I just don't believe a cowl hood looks right on a 66 used as a daily driver.

The 502 needs an electric fuel pump, the 572 can use a mechanical pump. Headers will be close, but custom headers should not have to be bought..... i think hedman or sanderson have headers that'll fit
