: Weld - I cut a little of the frame!

When i was pulling out my front lower control arms, i used a Jig saw to cut some of the bushing, i could not get it out, but i cut some of the frame by the bolt hole. the cut goes down right to the top of the hole, but not all the way through. I know i must weld this bec of safety, will it be okay to just fill up the crack with some weld? (not epoxy right?) i dont think my welder (century) will do much penetration into the frame. One more question, i know flux core has much more clean up, is it easier to work with for a beginner? To get a gas tank where i live is over 100 dollars, im also doing full floor boards, should i get the tank? If the tank, how much gas will i need for the floor boards?
thanks

Hey Frank.......Buy the tank...you won't be sorry....buy the larger tank if you can afford it. I bought the smaller version at first, the one taht is about 20 or so inches tall, I think it is a 20 Cu. Ft. and I went through it in no time at all doing my floors. When I went back, my supplier let me upgrade to the larger tank, (40 Cu Ft, I think) for very littel money and it only costs about 17.00 to refill here in Michigan. Very cost effective and only half as many trips to the supply store.

P.S. Turn up the heat and don't burn through on your frame. Grind it flush and paint it and you should be fine. DON'T use epoxy...

Frank, here's a tip for welding thicker metals (frames) with welders that are meant to weld only sheet metal, such as yours. First take a torch and heat the area to be welded, red hot. Then, while the area is still red hot, take your mig welder and weld the split shut. Grind to perfection.

Also be sure you can reach the "bottom" of the crack. Depending on how wide the crack is you may need to "open up" the crack with a grinder to form a half or full V so the wire can fill the entire gap.
