I worked for a restoration shop 10 years ago and we always used Mequires paper and 3M Finessit componds and polish. I have a car here with 6 year old BB/CC that is in desparate need of some cut and buff. I have a good buffer but I need to purchase compounds and paper. What is the best results achived with these days. Also what grit would you use to cut old paint that was never sanded? 2000?

Thanks
Richard

In dad's shop, we use 1500 on a D/A sander (short throw D/A with half the stroke of a normal one) and sand it DRY. You must sand out the dirt and specks wet with a block, but orange peel can be reduced to nothing dry on the D/A.

Step 2 is to do it again with a 3000 soft pad on the D/A WET.

I can't recall what he's using for buffing compound... 3M of some sort.

Its on a 40 Ford with lots of round areas so I think I will stick with hand sanding. Any tips on products guys?

Stick with the 2000, I use 3M perfect it compound with wool pad then Finesse it with a lambs wool pad (yellow). Then the perfect it polish with a black foam waffle pad. Mike
