Thought I would give the Astros a fresh start with this thread. Man, I wish I could get tickets to a NLCS game.

GO 'STROS!!!

Now that my gutless Yankees (yes, I can call them gutless, because win lose or draw ... they are still my team. But I have to call em like I see em and they played like a gutless team with no heart) are embarressingly out of it, I'm hoping for an Astro Vs. White Sox World Series.

Just please, beat the Cards!

Go Cardinals With Carpenter as the Cy Young winner and Pujols as the MVP.

Considering my Red Sox and Dodgers aren't in it... I'm hoping for the Astros vs the White Sox and White Sox the winners... I HATE the Angels despite where I live and the Clemens is the reason why the Red Sox have been my team for so many years so I still support his teams.... I have a feeling it might be Angels v the Cards though..

1-0 Angels in the ALCS series. They're showing a lot of heart with their depleted pitching staff and travel time. Either that heart will carry them past the White Sox or it will eventually catch up to them.

Any other Astros fans out there? Game 1 is tomorrow. Can I get a:

"Astro's Fever.....Catch It!!!"

GO 'STROS!

Carpenter as Cy Young? He'd be third or fourth on my list. But Pujols... he's too good.

I see the whole series coming down to Astros pitching against Pujols. That's why Garner won't let him get too many pitches to hit. He'll get a lot of walks, and the Astros will win in 6.

Albert who ...? This Reggie Sanders has been single handedly carring the Birds in the playoff so far. Funny thing is, I remember a couple of years ago when he was bench during the playoffs for hitting so poorly.

I can't root for any team that Tony LaRusso is the manager of, so go 'Stros ...

Wow. Was it me, or was that the worst home plate umpire you've ever seen? He was calling balls in the dirt as strikes. I couldn't believe it.

My best friend was disagreeing, however, he IS a Card's fan. I did notice he got an uncomfortably quiet after one of the calls. I think he was seeing it, but didn't want to own up to it.

If the ump was CONSISTENT about it, it wouldn't have been half as bad (they were still way low), but I don't think he was even that.

Well, it's going to be tough to win one in St. Louis, but Houston HAS GOT to win 1 there to get this done. If they can grab one tomorrow, I'll feel optimistic heading to Houston at 1-1.

I sure Oswalt is on his game.

How about Chris Burke? He must be feeling good at the plate.

Roy O was en fuego!

I'll take a split. Here comes the ROCKET!

I honestly feel like Oswalt is the nastiest starting pitcher in baseball. Clemens on his best day can hang with him, but it just seems like Roy is more consistent.

NOW, Lidge is the nastiest reliever in the game. Geez, that guy has St. Louis' number.

It sure doesn't hurt to have the pitching staff that Houston does. If their offense would click with some regularity, they would be pretty much unstoppable. As is, every game is a nailbiter it seems.

Burke is still looking good and Taveras keeps the defense on their toes. I have to say that I'm a bit concerned that Biggio, Burkman and Ensberg are leaving so many guys on base.

Well, we got one. I'm happy with the split. Now, let's end it in Houston.

P.S. With the possibility that Houston could close the series out at home, tonight could have been the last game played at Busch Stadium. I don't remember the announcers mentioning that.

Oct 14th, 05, 8:41 AM
Wow, you're right, the announcers didn't even THINK about the Busch stadium ending. Oh well.

Leaving people on base is risky. But doesn't this team remind you a lot of those Braves teams that kept winning? Pitching and defense, with a few young guys hitting better than you thought they would?

Wish we could have held on to Bertrand....

I agree. He gets ahead of hitters, keeps the ball down low, can throw strikes when he wants to and will throw at your head just enough to keep guys thinking...

Worst home plate umpire EVER!

But a win is a win, and I'll take it!

It doesn't look good for the Cards. But the Astros still need one more. I won't give up on the Cards until it's over.

I do agree with the Umps being horrible, though. They aren't the stars, you shouldn't even notice them.

I agree. The commisioner needs to call these guys and tell 'em to chill. They are getting in the way of the athletes.

Geez. I can't believe it. I hate Pujols with a passion.

One pitch. One pitch from the promised land.

There is still hope for the Cardinals yet.

Isn't it amazing what a normal strike zone can do to a ballgame.

Like I said the other day, Pujols for MVP and Carpenter gets the Cy Young.

As a Cards fan, Izzy makes me nervous until he makes the 3rd out (usually after loading the bases). It's just nice to see Lidge is human after all.
Go Cards!

Oh Yeah. Oh Yeah. From the misquito-killing clouds of poison at Colt-45's stadium, to finally... this.

FEELS GOOD!!!

I still vote Pujols league MVP. He's TOO good.

Beat the Chi-sox!!!
BTW, the standing ovation the St. Louis fans gave the 'Stros after the game was VERY classy.

Well Justin, what do you think now?

I think we finally laid the curse of St. Louis to rest. Outside of Game 1 and Pujol's shot, we fairly well dominated them. It was a great series, but the Cards offense was nil.

Been out of town since Wednesday, so I didn't get to weigh in on this. So here goes.

Go Astros!
