Harold, are you out there?

I'm very happy with the VooDoo cam recommendations which you've made for me in the past and now I've decided to install one in my 1972 El Camino.

My specs are stock bottom end, 8.5:1 compression, 600cfm carb, 882 heads (1.94" intake valves), exhaust manifolds (log style) with full 2" dual exhaust, TH350 transmission with stock converter and 2.73:1 rear end gears. I'm looking for a nice rumble, with decent power. Right now the car has the original camshaft, I'm looking for something better, but it must be very streetable. This car will see no strip time.

Which VooDoo is right for me? 60101?

Would the 60102 be too much? Would the 60100 be too little? What spec valve springs are we talking for the 60102, I think I have one of those on the shelf heading for a 327cu.

Last winter I added a set of upgraded Vortec heads, RPM intake, HEI, headers and a Voodoo 60101 cam to the stock (dish piston) 350 short block in my '67 Malibu. Replaced the original PG with a TH350 at the same time.
Very nice cam! Pulls real hard mid range. Slight lope at idle.

The 60101 would be the biggest I'd use, and the 60100 will work just fine.
Back in my UD days, my 207/217H would take 84 'Vettes TOO fast for women drivers, and I made an Oldsmobile 455 this 207/217H, the engine went in a 1975 GMC motor home. The owner let me know it would pull a car behind it at 95 mph, and it got excellent gas mileage when driven sanely.
We did not dyno-test the 60100, but the 60101 performed great, turning 6200 in a Vortec head with STOCK Vortec springs.
Either one will work just fine.

Your 350 is very similar to mine, at least till I changed rear gears. My engine was totally stock, about 9:1 with a 2.56 rear end. In one project, I swapped cam, intake, carb. I used a brand x cam with .454 lift and 218 duration at 50, with a 110 lsa. I was a little disappointed I think due to the tall gear in back. The cam makes 13" of vacuum and has a choppy idle. It's not radical, but not as street-friendly as I would like. Works better now, however with a 3.42 gear. Anyway, after I did the top end swap, I bought full length headers and dual exhaust (2 1/4") and got much more bang for buck with that project, but I was going from 1 7/8 single exhaust to duals. I guess what I'm saying is be sure you get a cam you can live with on the street if that's important to you, you can only do so much with a mild mannered 350 and tall gears, you still want to enjoy driving it. Cheers!

Thanks everybody! I'm leaning towards the 60101 Voodoo camshaft for my elky.

FYI...I meant to add...with the Voodoo 60101 cam, my 350 also pulled nearly 19" of vacuum at idle, too...thru an Avenger 670 carb.
