Was this ever used on the 70 Chevelle?

Or was the 8-track player part of the radio itself?

On the 70, at least on the AM radios, the 8-track was part of the radio. Can't say I've seen a 70 AM/FM 8-track, though. Ask him what the service number is, and that can be decoded into exactly what it fits. Should be something like 91AFB2

Same here .. all I have seen are the AM/8-Track. Wasn't sure if you had the AM/FM radio if the 8-Track was a separate unit. I have my original restored AM/FM and think it would be cool to have an original 8-track unit for it.

The guy selling did say this is for a 69 but I know 69 and 70 had very similar parts.

Anyone else have any info on the 8-tracks?

The underdash unit was used for the 68-69 model years I beleive! In 1970, the am was standard, am/fm mono was available as an option as was the am/fm multiplex stereo. The 8 track player was available in 2 versions, the first was a am/8 track indash unit, the hi dollar unit of the time was the am/fm-8 track stereo, I know because I have one in my 70 LS-6 car that was factory installed and it still works.

Some folks went to their Chevrolet parts counters and bought underdash 8 track units and installed them but if you ordered one in a 70 car, you would have an indash unit as stated above.

Just to add,all three of the these 1970 stereo units:
*U-79 AM/FM
*UM-1 AM 8TK
*UM-2 AM/FM 8TK
Recieved 4 speakers from the factory automatically,as they were Stereo units.

Just a quick note, the Chevrolet under dash 8 track player will have a different plug than what is on the 69 8 track player. The 70 underdash will be a long plug vs the square plug from the 69.

I mention this because the possible incompatability with the rest of the radio/speaker wiring connectors.
