OK, are the guns that you see at walmart and sears any good? are they just for primer?
I'm looking to get a "CHEAP" gun to atleast spray good primer on my velle.
Whats it take (in a gun) to spray BC, CC?

what dose:

HVLP - mean?
Tip Size - what is good the bigger the number,
or the smaller the number? (1.8, 1.4, etc)
Pressure - is more pressure better teh less?
I know i have to find a gun that will work
with my compresser, but is more or less
better?
Consumption - ???

Also!

I have been looking on ebay.
what are the guns you see that say
"Gun will run on 1HP compresser." WHAT?
its a gravity HVLP gun, 1.4 tip, 15-43 psi.
sounds to good to be true!

help me out! I want a gun that i can atleast spray good primer, build up primer.
and if i can even get one that will spray color.

I am not an expert, but I have had decent results with a "cheap" spray gun... Even spraying final color coats and clear coats... I guess I could get better results with a better gun, but I only used the car to paint door jambs, dash, inner fenders (paint and primer) and two main panels on one car and a large truck cab.

I haven't painted much in the past 5+ years, so I couldn't justify spending more at the time... Now that I might do some more, I might look into a better gun...

The HVLP stands for High Volume, Low Pressure.

It uses much lower pressure to create less overspray and therefore less VOCs into the atmosphere... Supposely more material actually gets on the car (less overspray) and therefore you also use less paint.

I have been thinking of getting an HVLP setup from one of the places like Eastwood or TIP Tools, but I am not sure how good they are...

I still use my old Binks and De Villbiss guns for primer, if you are spraying base/clear high solids you will need a good HVLP from Binks Devillbiss or Sata to spray those finishes. Read paint manufacturers recomendations for fluid tip and air cap sizes. Generally recomend 1.3-1.8...smaller I found ( 1.4 mm) works great for me. Idea is these guns atomiz better for finer spray and better uniform finish as well as smoother. Pay close attention to activators and solvents for different temperature ranges. Expect to spend $400.00 or more for one of the quality guns. Make sure your compressor can maintain constant air reqirements for the gun. And most importantly..WEAR a positive air supply mask system...This stuff urethane is serious stuff!!! Protect those lungs!!!

SPend a few more bucks for the HVLP "top loader". The "cheap" guns do a good job, but for a few bucks more you can get a good gun.

IMHO if you are looking for a decent HVLP gravity feed gun go to Harbor Freight's web site and buy theirs. On sale they are $49.95. I have used mine to paint three cars and I love it.

I agree with Harbor Frieght. I have a store in my town and buy alot of tools there. Their HVLP 49.99 gun is a good one and will do just fine for your needs. Buy their 19.99 gun for primer. It is not a HVLP gun but also works good.
