I went to the local paint distributor who only sells ppg and started talking about fillers and paint he does carry the rage products which I'm planning on using on top of the por putty I just ordered will this work?

Anyway I told him I wanted a decent quality paint job for little money, which I know is hard to do. I asked if he had heard about akzo nobel and he said they aren't good. Then I procedded to U-tech and he said it was junk. So I asked him what he reccomended for the cost concious and he said omni. I know you guys say this stuff is like water so I told him that and he said I would just need a couple extra coats.

I think he is just partial to what he carries. What do you think?

I found a Akzo Nobel dealer local but they only sell wholesale, the guy there told me he would probably sell to me though.

I just want to get some paint on the car that look good not excellent and affordable.
Any reccomendations would be great.

Thanks,
Mike

I haven't been impressed with the Omni line, of course he's going to sell you what he carries/services.
I've had pleasureable results with Dupont's budget line, Nason.

Just my biased .02 tongue.gif

We use Azko Noble stuff on our Aircraft.
If properly mixed there's no problems and it holds up very well. I've even sprayed it over previous paints with NO prep and it sticks & covers

Hah hah! thats funny.Doesn't surprise me that he said the competions product sucks. I have used both and i can tell you honestly U-tech is ten times the product Omni is.It covers in 2 coats. No dickin around with using the right 'undershade' or colored sealers. Two coats whether you used white or black sealer. Omni is like water and you need more like 6 or 8 coats. That guy wants to sell you his product.I would not buy there, he cares more about makin a buck then how your car comes out. If you want i could post pics of 3 or 4 show quality jobs that have U-tech on them. Can't say that about Omni, i had to trim the runs off the bottom of the door with a razor blade, sand it down and reshot it with something else.

I'm a ppg fan and I won't use Omni. The stuff is junk.

When ever I talk to a saleman and everything he has is great and all others are junk, that is the time to leave. I don't care what the product, the competition has a product that is at least, "ok". To say that another product is junk tell me he knows nothing or is simply a liar.

I wouldnt paint my friggin wheelbarrow with that JUNK smile.gif

Akzo Nobel is a very well respected paint manufactor they have excellent products!!

As for that sells guy he's doing what sells guys do, push THEIR product. Find a different place to do business with, a place like that is NO place to buy from

Sorry, almost missed this. PPG is fine. U-Tech Sikkens and Lesonal are Akzo Nobel. Remember you get what you pay for!

When my dad had his body shop they used PPG exclusively. So when we decided to start doing some rebuilders we decided to use the omni line We had decent luck with the fist one which was a pewter colored S-10 pickup, but when we did the second one we had problems. We put a front clip, left door and left quarter on a dark purple cavavier and bought a gallon of paint which should have been way more than enough to shoot this car. Well anyway we ended up using the entire gallon on the front clip for a grand total of 10 coats and you could still see right through the paint to the primer. So we ended up stripping it all off and using Nason and it covered like a dream. My uncle also tried Omni on a red 97' GMC pickup and it would not cover. I would run far away from Omni if I were you and would also consider finding a different paint supplier if this one is telling you that all other lines are junk, when he is the one who is trying to push omni onto you. The bad thing is that now most body supply stores are only allowed to sell one line of products so you may have to try quite a few different places before you find what best suits your needs. For instance the supplier I used to use fro both PPG and Dupont is now only selling PPG since PPG will not let any of their dealers sell any other lines, so it makes it harder for you to shop and compare. Good luck
