I recently replaced the door weatherstrips on my 1966 Chevelle convertible with A&M SoffSeal brand weatherstripping. Now the doors are difficult to close. Everything fits o.k , but when you go to shut the door it will only close by slamming it. Not good. I had heard that Metro brand was much better. Anybody got any ideas or comments? Thanks for the help.

I just put my Soft Seal door weather strips on today and also had to slam the door. A rude awakening for a car that I painted two weeks ago, but thats what has to be done. I did the same thing on my 71 a couple years ago and left the door closed for a week or so and it was fine.

Weatherstripping has been on car for over a year with door shut. Just now having time to drive car some. Doors were not removed when car was painted so I don't think adjustment is out.

Todd, common problem with that brand IMO. I used Metro.

I heard a suggestion in a post a while back to adjust the striker out a little until the seal gets properly deformed for the doors to shut all the way (week or so).

I put my Soft-Seal door weather strips on yesterday and the doors both close fine today with the striker adjusted right.

I've had similar problem, installed metro weatherstrips, then the door and window worked like it supposed to.

to late now but Metro wont do that, I had soft seal on another car and a year later I was still slaming the door.

i've used both but my metros (twice) separated where they joined them together on my 81 malibu door window seals, they went in fine but less than year later they split. I agree with the softseal used them on 64 wagon and the drivers door was hell to close so i called them and they sent a new set out at no cost. The door is still hard to close.(been 4 yrs) I think its the door but i just live with it.
