I have a 69 SS396. I was wanting to know if the car would of had the stripe on the sides when it was new. It does not now. Did all 69 SS's have a stripe? And if they did not how do I tell if mine did? Thank You

Not all 69 SS's had side stripes. It was an option and not everyone wanted it. If you have the build sheet with your car, it will appear as an option. I have a few friends that had bought these cars new and made comments on how alot of guys back then didn't like the look of the stripes. I personally like the look. Other than being on the build sheet, I don't know any other way to verify it came with side stripes. Unless you have a picture of the car when it was bought new :). Sometimes if the car hasn't been restored or the previous painter wasn't to thorough there might be a small piece of the stripe left behind in the back edges of the fenders and door edges. If you like the look put them on and enjoy.

I'm sure one of the members here will know the option code for the side stripe option.

I for one am a big fan of the side stripe, I think it looks just great. ( Especially when paired up with a vinyl top ).

My Frost Green / White vinyl top car is most likely going to get the side stripes - although not correct, I am leaning to White SS stripes to match the white top going back on.

The '69 that we bough new had the D96 stripe at a cost of $33.85. The other car didn't come with the stripe but silver needs some accent help so we added the stripe to it as well.

Per my '69 Features and Specs Guide, white side stripes would be correct for Frost Green with a Parchment vinyl top.

black vinyl and black side stripe was the only way to go if you ask me...certain colors really benefit from the contrast.

I am a die hard fan of the 69 ss stripe on a 69 , versus the 70ss stripes on a 69..but to each his/her own I guess-variety is the spice of life or so they say.

Yes IMO also the side stripe is the only way to go on a '69 SS. Don't like the '70 stripes on a '69 at all. Everyone has their own tastes.

Von, where is your antenna? Mine is in the front fender. As a side note, I have to get a new front windshield ( mine was FUBAR on removal). THe 70 & later glass is interchangeable and has the ant. in the windshield correct?

Mine is on the front fender, which was the std location in '69. A rear mounted manual antenna was an option for AM only radios in '69. AM-FM was front only. '70 and later got the WS antennas.

Whats wrong with 70 stripes on a '69? My car feels faster with them...

Hey, I'm the one that posted the question about the side stripe. My car is Frost Green/white top/dark Green int. also. I looked at your pic. I had never seen one the same color as mine before. Do you have some kind of two tone thing going on or is it just a shadow?

Von, maybe just the picture, but there does not appear to be any antenna.

It's probably the crappy picture. I need to update it. There is definately an antenna on the front passenger side.
