Pulled the starter on the chevelle today to replace and i noticed the frost plug had a couple drops of antifreeze around bottom edge . How do you get the old plug out, and what is the easiest way to install new one.Did a search and someone mentioned a rubber plug is this the way to go or stick with metal one .
thanx

Just take a pin punch and drive the old plug into the block on one edge. The plug will rotate and allow you to grab it with a pair of pliers and yank it out. Find a socket that will fit inside the new one and drive it home with that. Make sure to protect your socket from the hammer, or use a brass mallet. Never had much luck with the rubber plugs.

First of all the plug is a casting plug and not a freeze plug like some people
think. There are rubber plugs that do the same as steel(cheap plugs from the factory are garbage). Brass plugs only-make sure that the opening in the block is sanded inside to get rid of the deposits .Coat the opening inside with gasket sealer. Let it tack up and you can use a socket that fits. Drive it inside flush with the block.Take your time and watch those fingers. You can use a chisel to make several indents on the corner of the plug. This helps to keep the plug from moving. Safety-FIRST-jack stands only.
