: Progress on my 67 frame-off effort- pics
Just thought I'd post a couple of progress pics.
This is not a concours resto. Here's what I got done this weekend. I've spent a few weeks rebuilding this 3.70 rear including new bearings, seals and installing an Eaton posi unit. Brake lines are stainless. Rear busings are rubber. Will probably go with UMI lowers eventually.
Tom68, this should look familiar. It's the rear and axles I got from you:thumbsup:
BTW Guys, the frame and rear control arms are galvanized.

Sweet, just a question, why did you choose the bonded brake shoes? My experience with them is they usually wind up squealing.
Herb Oct 5th, 05, 11:53 AM Yeah, good point. I read that here and I believe it. They just happened to be in the bulk batch of parts I got from my parts guy. He threw them in for no cost. I will change them if they cause a problem.
I probably won't put more than 500 miles a year on this car.
Thanks.
Olle Oct 5th, 05, 12:19 PM Looks very good! BTW, how did the control arm bushings work out? Were the tolerances ok after the galvanizing, or did you have to clean them out before pressing the bushings?
Olle,
I had to clean them a little. Used a rotary stone in a drill. 5 mins per bushing hole. It REALLY tightens those front ball joint sockets :D
But the bolt holes inthe frame were no trouble at all. Drive a 1/2 in. bolt thru them once and it cleans them out. Then just install the CA bolt. The galvanizing really isn't a problem at all.

Adman Oct 5th, 05, 4:55 PM nice job. One day i'll be able to frame off the 65.
Tom's 68 Oct 5th, 05, 6:31 PM looks alot different than when you picked it up from here
hey that bell and lower control arms looks familiar too :D
did you get the driveshaft U-bolts yet?
I sent them out usps last thursday
progress looks great
rubadub Oct 5th, 05, 7:01 PM Looking good Herb, plus you're getting a lot more done then I am, it gives me incentive to see that. One question, are your stainless steel brake lines pre-bent or did you bend them, I haven't put my lines in yet, and if you bent them yourself, are they a lot harder to bend then steel. Keep up the good work.

DaleM Oct 5th, 05, 8:03 PM Toss in my kudos here as well. Looks like a very good start. As long as the body is off you might want to take a picture or two of the VIN derivative on the frame - never see it again when the body goes on.
Tom, no bolts yet. PM me the address you sent them to.
Rob, yes the lines are pre-bent but may require some adjusting. The stainless is a bear to bend, kinks easily. The good news is that I bought mine from The Right Stuff. They will be the correct lines or they will make it right. They are rabid about customer satifaction. If you have a problem, they'll help resolve it or replace the line. Perhaps others will too, I.E In Line Tube, etc. but I haven't dealt with them.
Dale, good advice. Thanks.
Now I have a problem. I took loads of pics of the frame before teardown. However, the brake lines on this car were butchered and spliced. Therefore, I have no idea how or where the correct ones are supposed to go. The assy manual is vague on it. Would your CD any pics of the routing of the brake lines on this 67 coupe?
