i was just going to weld some blackpipe across the remaining frame rails to keep them getting to out of wack. figure a couple straight across and a couple diagonaly. then i'll cut out the old and tack in the new rear subframe. any thoughts?

looks like someone already added the vette IRS at some point. I would measure the wheel base really good. What kind of vehicle is it? Looks like some old truck. My buddy clipped his old 55 p/u with a S&W universal clip and it went pretty smooth. He just measured out the wheelbase, trimmed the crossmember to fit inside the original "C" channel frame, then boxed it in and added a couple supports. also remember to make sure the truck is level and have fun.

Anthony, I think the factory "added" the Vette IRS - I do believe that is a Corvette that Gregg is working on.

It`s hard to tell by the pics. The last vette I worked on was a 64 when I helped my friend convert it from drum to pwr disc and we swapped the whole rear but I don`t remember the frame looking like that but it`s been almost 10 yrs. Either way, the rules still apply. Just measure, measure, measure. When my buddy did his, he had a scrap peice of 2x3 tubing he welded acroos the top to keep it from twisting. I used some 1/4" thick 1.5" flat stock when I removed the straight axle x-member from my old 57 p/u when I did the Mustange II x-member kit. It worked pretty good except the very front end of the frame bowed in about a 1/8" per side because I did`nt think it add a peice there. Good luck and remember to post some after pics.

I think the 66 was the first year for 4 wheel discs, don't know about the IRS.

I could`nt tell you what the first year for disc brakes on a vette was but we swapped a rearend from a wrecked 69 vette. It had the same gears and was the same width. we also swapped the front discs from the same car.
