It's not a bad deal, but that drive that's in there isn't going to work. That drive you see inside (the spring pack and spline drive) is still for the original application, a 6-71 Detroit. So you'd have to invest in a complete drive setup for a car application. I'm thinkin' you might end up at close to $1k for the other needed parts, including the drive setup, the intake, etc. If you look closely, you can see it's also missing the rear cover. This is due to the fact that the rear cover drives the governor on the diesel. I'd pass, myself. Offer $300, see if he bites.

I have been looking into a blower for my next buildup. From the info I have gathered. It doesnt really make much sense to peice a setup together for the same reasons Cameano mentions. Its going to be close to 2 grand after all is said and done. I think im just going to plop for a kit from a manufacture when I get to that point.

Drive kits run over $1k and intakes are about $3-500 depending on the manufaturer. I don't think I would bother with the one in that ad.... Ebay has better deals for more complete setups. I got a new never run BDS for %50 of new with carbs.

even if you bought it, it needs rear bearing plate, better front bearing plate, and i would have it gone over by a builder anyway-if your not 100% sure of what your buying, avoid it-by a kit
i used to keep several cores around, send them out to be rebuilt as needed
i just buy the new ones now

Jeff, Do you mind if I ask what you search for on E Bay? I have tried countless times to see whats on E Bay for blowers and find very little. Blower, Supercharger, 6-71, 8-71, I have tried all of those keywords. How did you find yours?

my search is/was setup "blower -motor" and I do one occasionally for BDS. You will have to do some sifting but I usually find the stuff. I have also used "supercharger BBC -Honda -turbo" :D The quotations are used here for illustration and not part of the search. A few other searchable terms could be : dyers, littlefield, the blower shop, magnesium, . Be careful (and patient) as there are some deals but just like the rest of Ebay there is some serious junk. My initial plan was to get the Wieand setup through Summit but I really wanted the BDS setup. The real sad thing is I had a chance to buy a COMPLETE BBC blower motor locally ready to assemble carb to pan for $6500. I passed on it telling my buddy I could do my own for less and more cubes. I basically spent double:clonk: About the only saving grace is I got everything on a good deal and got higher quality namebrand stuff. Good Luck on your search......

I ran into a guy at a swap meet that had a complete top end Wieand 8-71 blower setup last summer. He had everything for the top end. Blower/intake/pulleys Etc. But also had 1050 dominator carbs sitting on top with the plate and throttle linkage also installed. Plus a hilborn style scoop. Guy wanted $3500. Probably a 5k setup if you bought it all new. It never sold and I got his number at the end of the day. Hoping I could swing the cash by the end of the season. Unfortunately I couldnt so I never called him back. :(
