I have a friend that will teach me TIG and MIG welding, and I am getting the parts through Goodmark. I really want to save this car, I just need some help with it.
I cam post more pics if needed.
Thanks for any help

baddbob71 Jan 16th, 04, 4:00 PM with patience and persistance you will succeed, How is the underside?
BlazingChevhell Jan 16th, 04, 4:18 PM The passenger floor pan is just beginning to show a few oxidation spots. Frame is just fine, no rust on it. Rear and Drivers floors are great!
GRN69CHV Jan 16th, 04, 4:42 PM If you have never done any welding, it will be tough. You can buy replacement panels and hang them, but it depends on what you are after. If you are unsure of your abilities, strip the car down by yourself, take the body (on the chassis) to someone who can do the welding of quarter panels and have them do it. Throw away the fenders and get replacements. The outer wheelhouses can be patched in if not too bad when the new quarters are hung. Very few cars are too far to consider not doing, it all depends on what you want and how much time and money can you commit.
LS_5 Jan 16th, 04, 4:50 PM With that kind of damage around the bottom of the rear window, I can't believe that the trunk and wheel wells aren't shot, too. I'm no expert, but if you have to get into replacing wheel wells, etc. you need a pro! Not a first timer project, for sure!
Also, some of the sheet metal parts that you will likely need are not available as aftermarket parts. The metal that runs from the front of the trunk pans over the rear axle and down behind the rear seat is not re-poped. The verticle piece that sits behind the the tail lights and bumper is not available, either. These are junkyard pieces.
Just my .02.

BlazingChevhell Jan 16th, 04, 4:52 PM If you look close, you will notice the fenders are not 70 fenders. They are missing the reflectors in the lower front. This is not going to be a showcar by any means, but geared for more street fun. It currently has plastic inner fenders, and I heard they hey are actually heavier than the sheetmetal type. Do you know if this is true or just a lot of BS?
BlazingChevhell Jan 16th, 04, 5:19 PM US Body fiberglass shell time? The trunk floor and the fuel tank fell victim to a moron who thought the battery in the trunk was a good idea. He didn't use any bracing or brackets, so the battery tipped over...you know the rest.
First body parts to order are the floor kit from ss396.com(Ground UP) and Grille kit as well. BTW front end is from a 72, radiator support and all. No indication as to why this was done, no damage apparent to frame or associated components. If it was hit, it was repaired right.
Once I get the engine/trans out I will shoot new jpgs.
BlazingChevhell Jan 16th, 04, 5:56 PM Also where can I get the Fathom Blue color paint form the 70 list? I cant find a modern number anywhere. Is anyone producing this color anymore?
