I was just wondering if any of you painters have ever used the Nason(by DuPont) brand of primers and paints? It was recommended to me by my local DuPont dealer as being a 'cheaper' alternative to the DuPont line. The word 'cheaper' is what I question ;) Any opinions(good or bad) on the product line? Thanks, Dennis

The clear I saw had a yellow tint to it compared to the better lines.

I use the clear on everything. It dulls off a little more than the expensive stuff after dries but i sand and buff all my work, it buffs easy and shines like glass after buffing. Well worth using on an everyday ride. If its a show type job i might spring for the high end stuff. The 2k primer is very good too. I was told by a Dupont insider that regular Dupont products like the old 7500 clear and the old Uroprime were moved(renamed) to the Nason line when they became non VOC compliant, and were replaced by VOC compliant products..I don't have VOC restrictions in my area so they work fine for me.

Thanks everyone. I haven't yet heard anything negative about it, so I guess I'll go with it. Nice website and car Michael. Maybe someday I'll be that far smile.gif Thanks again, Dennis

deejay, Ill second what boomhauer said about the Nason. I believe out of all the cheaper or value based lines of paint, Dupont's Nason is the best.

If what he said about the URO-prime and 7500 clear being renamed in the Nason line is true graemlins/hurray.gif . The last place I worked we sprayed Dupont. Used URO and 7500 both great products especially the URO-prime

Boomhauer, it's true that in the VOC restrictive areas the old 7500S clear was kinda phased out when the V7500S(VOC compliant) was brought on the market. However, the 7500S has now been brought back onto the market and is available in many areas. I don't know if it was reformulated prior to its re-emergence. I've used many gallons of it. While it certainly doesn't compare to ChromaPremier, it does a good job and is considerably cheaper than the more pretentious stuff.

I don't know about the 7500S being switched to Nason...If so, it should raise Nason's reputation by several levels. I had an unsatisfactory experience with Nason single stage 5-6 years ago and never used it again.

I am prolly one of the few that uses single stage and my daily driver has Nason Fleethane. nice gloss & color, a little 'hard'. buffs nice on what little i did buff. .Nason can be just as confusing as many other brands when it comes to products as they do have quite few differnt lines. I have some LIGHT chemical popping on the one quarter panel from ??? but you really have to look to see it. I did prep it right but it may have sat too long in primer??
Since my niece works for Dupont I had a good source of info off the internet. it is not easy to find though through the myriad of Dupont websites. she was able to give me the right direction on it and it goes as follows.
http://www.performancecoatings.dupont.com/
click 'VISITOR'
click 'PRODUCTS' from top
click' TECHNICAL MANUALS' left side
click 'NASON' left side
that brings you to this site
http://www.performancecoatings.dupont.com/bowstreet/com.bowstreet.service.DPCLoginMNF/Method:external:DPC-Login-HM-C:InterfaceFunction

then roll down through the MANY products they offer.

BTW= Nason is the product line that all the local Maacos use. and say what you want about Maaco but I don't think they would use products that would give them headaches with all that they do.

I am getting ready to do a BC/CC job on a driver and I would like to try this stuff out. What are the names or ID numbers of the base and clear that you would recommend? Seems like there are a lot of different ones listed on that site.

Dave, you would want the Ful-base basecoat in whatever color you need, then 483-30 activator and 441-21 reducer that are added to it.Then use the Select Clear either 497-00 or 496-00.One is a 3:1 mix and one is a 4:1 mix. I prefer the 4:1 mix and make sure you get the overall activator for the clear. I pay around $75 for a gallon of clear with the activator.Make sure you get the Ful-base BASECOAT, because there is Ful-base Enamel also.Kind of confusing.

Nason is great stuff for the price my friend just did his 57 foot catamaran in 2002 Mustang yellow it came out beautiful BC/CC and I've done one of my Camaros with Nason and it's a few years old and still looks great. The production paint shops around here use it alot and have good luck with it.

thanks guys, that is just what I am looking for..how about numbers for a good primer surfacer and primer sealer? I am going to need the surfacer for repair areas and then I want to seal the whole car before painting.

I use the 421-17 Select Prime. Its a 4:1 urethane prime with good fill. They also have a good 4:1 sealer but don't know the # off hand.
