I'm getting the parts together to make a fast ratio steering conversion on my 66. I have a steering gear from a 94 Grand Cherokee but the alpha code is PD not AL as shown on your tech reference. What are some possible differences between the different codes?

I really don't know why the Jeep gear had so many different alpha codes for the six or so model years that they used the fast ratio Saginaw gear. Most of the time, General Motors customers would only change alpha codes if there was a major or significant change to the steering gear itself. As you can see from the spreadsheet, all of the major characteristics of the Jeep gear remained the same (i.e. ratio, valve effort, travel, t-bar size, etc).

Maybe the Jeep people were tracking how many times Saginaw increased the selling price of the gear to them -- Who knows!
