I was looking at the thick (maybe 1/4"?) carb insulator gaskets by Edelbrock today and was curious if they seal well. You don't need a gasket below or above right?. It felt like plastic to me but it was in the package.

I use a spacer (phenolic or plastic) to stop heat transfer from the intake to the carb. Keeping air temp and fuel temps down.

If its plastic, yes you need gaskets, if its just one of those thick carb gaskets, then no you don't need gaskets. One of those GM heat shields works wonders too, anything to keep the carb cooler works. I'm currently using a 2" open plastic/phenolic spacer and the carb doesnt get hot. Before long I'll be using a 1" open spacer and this weird looking 3/4" aluminum spacer with fittings and solenoids on it :D

Ha, shorter spacer, more power, and adjustable too

Has anybody used this type?

I've done spacer TNT'ing this past spring, 1" 4 hole, 1" 4 hole over a 1" open, and got best results with a 2" open spacer as far as performance goes. All combos are different, and no you don't need gaskets with that part you are talking about, it IS a gasket.
