I need help fast. I have the engine out of my car and I need to repaint it. I took the block to a machine shop to have it cleaned in the hot tank, hoping this would remove the paint, but it didn't. It took of some, and loosened up some more, but most of it is still there. It has been on there for about 12 years now. The paint is PPG acrilic enamel with hardner in it. I have to have my car in the Carl Casper show in Louisville on Feb 22nd and I haven't even got the block painted yet. How do I get this paint off of here so I can get it repainted?

Use some aircraft remover. It should take it right off. Rinse it off afterwards. It is water soluable.

If the aircraft stripper don't do it, I'd try one of the 3M rust remover wheels (available at any hdw store) on a drill.

Here's something to think about. If that paint stuck like it did with all of the effort to remove it, it's adhered pretty good now, isn't it? I'd leave the paint that's on it. It's a good base to paint over, AS LONG AS you PREP IT CORRECTLY! This sounds like a a lot of steps, but it's mandatory that ALL grease oils and silcones be totally removed from the surfaces.here's how:
Use a de-greaser/cleaner. Use a wire brush or a stiff brush to get into the hard to access spots.
Wipe down everything with lacquer thinner or acetone.
Clean with a pre-paint cleaner such as prep-sol.
Sand metal surafces with 180. Feather-edge remaining paint with 320.
wipe down with pre=paint cleaner again.
Paint. use light coats at first. On about the third, lay it on good.

I used the aircraft stripper on the block. It took 4 hours to get all of the paint off, but I finaly got it. The paint was flaking in places and had to be removed. I didn't trust it the way it was. Thanks for the replys.
