Hey guys, I have a 700R-4 from a '88 Z28 and I noticed it uses a electric sender for the speedo. If I wanted to use it in an older car like a Chevelle, can this tranny be used with the old type mechanical drive?

If so, how?

It can be put back to mechanical.
To be a VSS in '88 it must be from a TPI car right?

I THINK you should be able to just install a regular tailhousing and take the reluctor ring off, then install a speedo gear, housing, and driven gear.

That year may even have the right tailhousing... Just change the VSS out for a gear housing, and install gears.
