My master cylinder started leaking where the push rod from the booster goes. I figured ok,I need a new master cylinder. I was told that it is possible the booster is leaking at the seal around the pushrod which inturn can cause the seals in the master cylinder to go south. Is this possible? Can I check the booster myself for leaks and if so how?

Any suggestions

It is not likely you have a problem with the booster unless the master cyl. was leaking pretty bad. To check the booster: pump your brake pedal 2 or 3 timess with the engine off. (that empties the booster) you should have a hard pedal now.
Hold the brake pedal down and start the engine. The brake pedal should go down a ways as the engine starts. Also after the car sits for a while the brake pedal should be able to be applied easily 2 or 3 times.

good luck Jon

Are they saying that an air leak in the booster would cause a problem with the master cylinder seals? I believe there is a vent/drain slot at the bottom of the m/c where it mates to the booster, so I can't see that a leaking booster would cause any problems like that.

Do what Jon said to check the booster.
