: Horsepower per Dollar ratio.....

So maybe this has been covered before but I was reading a thread in performance about a guy talking about a 588 Twin turbo (1000 rwh) setup in a Chevelle.

Now, I know everyone wants more horsepower than the next guy, but at some point doesn't it become a horsepower/dollar ratio? What good is 1000hp, for a street car (he mentioned "street only" in the thread)? I mean, if I had $50,000 I could make 1000 rear wheel hp as well. That's $50/hp. But how much hp can you make with say, a thousand dollars?

So, I have never dynoed my engine, but I'm gonna say that it makes 300 horsepower. Collectively (including a cam wipeout, total rebuild) I have about $5000 (including all the shiny crap as well) in the engine. SO mine is $16.67/hp.

What's yours?

P.S. I'm not ripping on the guy above, he just provoked some thoughts.

According to an online ET/weight/hp calculator, I make 215rwhp from my $275 engine :) Finally something my car excells at!!! :D

$1.28/hp for the current combo

...too bad I've already spent most of the ~$8/hp on the LT1 I'm putting in next... that includes purchase, wiring harness, headers, etc.

$3,500/~425 = $8.24...It's not always what you put in it, but who puts it together. ;)

I don't even want to think about it... ;)

Best guess would be about $20 per HP.

Well, if you're only getting 1000hp from 50 grand you're definately getting ripped in the pooper. I could make 1000hp with a third of that cash, I guess some people just pay more money than they know what to do with. My engine (before serious HP upgrades) dyno'd 1200hp at the crank, I paid 12,500 for it at that point, have since put in maybe another 7-10 grand and it probably will make a very safe 14-1500 at the crank. So for 20k I'm pushin out 1400hp at about $14.28 per. Not bad 'eh.... if I had 50k, I'd be up around AT LEAST 2000hp to the wheels.
