: Longer Wheel Stud? Where to find?

Working on a '78 Pontiac T/A. A guy brought the car in with a bent right rear axle, and brake backing plate. When he bent the rear, he also destroyed the tire and rim. He replaced all 4 wheels & tires with a newer style rim, and much larger rubber. He thought at the time that he had just done damage to the tire/wheel. After checking it, I told him he needs to simply replace the rear end as it will be cheaper in the long run.

Long story short, he found a new rear end and I am going to swap it out for him. The problem that I am having is that when he switched to the larger tires and wheels, he had to use a wheel spacer on the right rear to clear the inner fender well. The wheel spacer is only allowing the lug nuts to contact maybe 1/8"-1/4" inch of the wheel studs. I need to find longer wheel studs!

I did a search on the Camaros.net site using "longer wheel studs" and came up with 2 pages of posts. After searching through them the only lead I came across was a reference to an '81 Olds. Cutlass. I called my local parts store and they tell me that both cars, the '78 T/A & the '81 Cutlass, call for the same stud!

Can anyone recommend a stud that is at least 1/4" longer than a factory rear brake stud in a '78 T/A?? I would need a year and make of vehicle so that I can order them.

Please help as I am trying to alleviate a very unsafe condition for this guy.

I posted this on the sister site-Camaros.net as well hoping that more people would view it.

Thank you!

I'd get some ARP wheel studs, they come in various lengths and sizes.

Why not just go to AutoZone or NAPA or something and have them go through their bins for a longer stud? The application shouldn't be important. If they know what thread it is and what size the knurl is, they should easily be able to get one that is 1/4" longer.

Any speed shop or performance oriented mail order company should have them. Try this link (http://store.summitracing.com/default.asp?Ntt=whhel+studs&Ntk=KeywordSearch&DDS=1&searchinresults=false&N=0&target=egnsearch.asp).
