Went out to the track today and 1st pass was not good(11.54) since my last time out was 11.0s.Pulled a couple of plugs and noticed i needed to jet up
so i went from fromm 88s in the rear to 90s and went from 84s to 88s in the
front and here is the results.
60ft--1.5989
1/8---7.0158@98.67 mph
1/4---10.9848@123.99 mph
Really not my pick of race tracks and to be honest i don't like it at all i just can't get good RT times there for some reason and tonight was terrible.
I do have a problem with my trans brake not wanting to hold the car which just started tonight.I also tried mixing cam2 with my gas 50/50 with no better results.I was told that my trans brake problem could be converter
related and was wondering if anybody could shine some light on that?

THANKS ALL,BILL

Cool  in the 10's !!

and you still have some ET left in it; with 124mph I bet you could run a 10.8 or maybe a little better if it really hooks up :D

Congrats on your new best! Nice MPH too!
You have to have full voltage to the tbrake solenoid or you won't get full pressure to hold 1st and reverse locked. If you are good there then it may be an internal pressure problem and I have no answer for chasing that down. I could be wrong but I don't see how the converter is going to make it creep when on the tbrake. Do you use a two step also?
I tied the 2 step to the tbrake button on my 78 and it works well so far being chipped to 3K on a 4500 converter. Gary

At this time i don't have a two-step hooked up.I just peg it to the floor and go.It stalls at 4,000 everytime.Checking the volts will be my 1st step.
Thanks for the in-put. BILL,
Bob,not sure what it runs foot braking it but I' ll try it next time out.

Congrats on the new best!:)

My T-brake was did this about a week before reverse went out totally. No reverse no brake. Pulled the pan and there was a ton of clutch shavings (1/4 inch min on whoe pan!) Mine was a hughes 400 with there brake. only been in the car for about 700 miles, Hughes has a 90 day warranty. It took me 5 months to get the car running! But the place i ordered it from was too lazy to see the real warranty so they put 1 year! hehe:p The next one has lasted 2 years no problem on the street.

I to have my 2 step set at 3000 and the converter will go to 4400. Seems to work best last time at the track, but changed a bit of the suspension so i will have to check it again.

How hot do you guys Transmissions run that have a brake?? I have a B&M racing cooler, the biggest one they make (50,000 GVW or something) and it runs a bit hotter then i would like. like 190,200 in the summer on the street. 180 after 1 pass.

Thanks for the input.Don't know the temp.(Don't run a gauge).I have a funny
feeling it's the trans.Sometimes it seems to be weak.I thought if you went from 3rd to 2nd you would feel the trans slow you down?I don't feel much of a pull down. It's a 400 coan but don't know how old it is since it came with the car when i bought it.It's hard to find anybody around here to depend on to rebuild a trans so if this is the problem I'll just buy a new coan and be done with.BILL

No wonder you can't get a consistant reaction time. Run a two step. The amount of time you are on the tbrake waiting for the last yellow will vary as you wait for the starter or or lane, the longer you are on it the more RPM you will have at launch. If the launch RPM isn't the same each time the R/T will be inconsistant.
I note that when I'm on the tbrake longer than normal I'll go red, badly.
I like to let the other lane full stage before me then as soon as I'm bumped in full staged I depress the button and mat the pedal. If I have my act together I'll go on the first flash of the last amber, watching only it so I don't anticipate, and should be between .010 an .018. Although I still cut the occasional .045 to .090 (WTH!!) light.
With a manual valvebody it will not down shift 3-2 untill the pressure drops enough. I guess this is a safety feature for those of us who had problems adjusting to reverse patterns (sound familiar Bob?).
I don't have a temp guage on mine so I dont know the temp.

Sure does Gary, I think I've got ME straightened out now, havent screwed up shifting in a while :D. I'm going to an AHRA Hot Rod Reunion saturday, if it doesnt rain, supposed to be much cooler, like 20* cooler from last trip to 1/4 mile track, still hoping for 10's, then I can install this NX hitman plus system on it ;) I'm gonna get me a 10.99 before I take it outta da box :D

Bob,
I had a hard time getting used to it too and spent a long time in the garage with the car mentally running thru everything I would do on a pass. I really had a hard time letting go of the button without raising my left foot at the same time! I guess I was too used to foot braking. Good luck with the 10.99, you certainly have the 60' for it.

Bill,
After reading what I typed it sounds to me like I was trying to say was you were wrong, do it my way. I didn't mean it that way at all, I was just trying to relate my experiences. I'm sorry if it sounded that way to you too.

Bill have you ever considered redoing the trans your self? A TH400 is a good place to start.

No problem did not take it wrong.Doing the trans i have never thought about doing it myself.I have another 400 in the shed that went out two yrs ago. A buddy down the street bought a book and taught himself how to rebuild one.
Lots of parts to work with?bill

I'm not sure of the color code?? Tranny I'm not really sure of it's brand either.
Most eveything on the car came with it as a package deal but my guess would be a coan.I'll fore sure check the volts.THANKS,BILL

Driver the books are great. yes there seems to be alot of parts to work with but once you start and go step by step its really not that bad.

Driver,

Congrats on the new best. I think you definitely need a 2-step. With that much tire and motor you should be 60 footing in the 1.40's to 1.50's. I leave on the brake with the 2-step set on 4000 and my car cuts consistant 1.504's to 1.509's
with a 315/60 drag radials/stock leaf spring and stock spiral shocks all the way around. I think you definitely have an easy 4 tenths left in your car alot of it is in your 60'.
I know that car has the potential to stand on the bumper. I have the february '95 issue of Hot Rod with it on the cover sitting on my toolbox. Course it had a 15:1 582 in it then. Doesn't look like it's changed much since then. http://www.chevelles.com/forums/images/icons/icon7.gif

Not many changes except the zz502 motor.I think the same as you about the 60 ft.It should be much better but the only thing that keeps coming to mind is
it don't have a real big motor and those are some big meats to get moving. It takes some big numbers to get that big of tire to move. Also, i could probably use some more stall.I have my work cut out for myself getting everything to work together.Flat on the floor i stall at 4000.Thanks,bill
