My '67 Chevelle SS doesn't have the flanged rear diff filler plug that I was told should be there. So I ordered one from Year One, but the plug goes less than half way in before going tight.

These plugs are suppose to go all the way in right? I'm starting to question the red tag issue for my rear posi. Any ideas?

The red tag is correct and the plug will not seat flush. I think it's pipe thread. I know with mine when it's tight the tag is loose.

So it just bounces around on the plug? When I put this plug in, I still have 3/8 of inch of space left.

Somehow I am doubting YO is selling the correct PLUG :clonk: Just a hunch.. they were just Discontinued from GM about 2 yrs ago and since that time have been selling for crazy money on the bay...as in $150 crazy... The RED POSI tag will have movement as ED said, but because of it's shape, it can only move about a 1/2 IN. or so frontward and back.. Not sure the plug should have that much gap, as you describe though. The Orig PLUG is GM Part # 3866433

ah, probably so. The plug I got looks a little different than the one in your picture. This one looks like an after market one, like its been lathed, instead of cast.

This is what the plug looks like from Year One. It only goes into my housing 2 or so threads before stopping. The non-flared one that was in my rear-end for the last 2 decades goes in 2x-3x as far.

Does this look like a GM plug or an aftermarket?

And Classic Muscle shows this same plug with the real GM part number next to it.

That's not an OEM GM plug! I'm sure many of the aftermarket/restoration places all have the same source for things like this.

Ok, that what I wanted to hear. Thanks

The original GM plug never did go all the way in. The red plastic posi label is suppose to be loose. That's the way it is on my 70 Z28.

But this aftermarket plug would let the tag have 3/8 of an inch to slide up and down the plug and it barely even went into the housing. Looks like it would rattle out.

Here's one on Ebay. The price is bound to go pretty high. How bad do you want a real one?

Nice try, that ones 3/4 inch at the threads, instead of 1 inch. Saw it this morning and emailed him the size question.
