Can anyone tell me why a holley carb backfires? I can't seem to get mine to stop backfiring when I floor it.

could be too lean...could be too fat too...check your timing as well.. might be too far advanced.

Backfiring is timing related, not carb related. Note that the backfiring on some earlier model Holley's will result in a blown powervalve(s) - you may want to replace them.

You may need to advance your timing. later.

Actually, if im not mistaken, A too lean Mixture will cause backfires too

If it runs ok otherwise it probably has a problem the the accelerator circuit.

If your power-valve is too small then when you get up in the higher RPM's you will build enough vacuum to close the power valve and it will lean out then backfire.
I had a 3.5 in my na smallblock and up at 6500 it would backfire so I went to a 5.5 and never had anymore problems.
