Hi guys! I am trying to find out if any of you knows where to find a picture of a 71 Chevelle/Malibu in burnt orange metallic, or something close to it. My dad had a 71 Malibu that was what he called burnt orange with a brown vinyl top that he bought in the early 70's and sold in the late 70's and absolutley loved the color combo. He has never seen another one like it and always talks about that car. I do have a couple of pics of the actual car from when "we" had it back in the 70's, but I would have to scan them to post them, and don't have access to a scanner.

Anyway, he has thought about getting another 71 and making it match that car he had, but he'd need to know the paint code for sure, since it was such an unusual color. From what I can tell in looking at the codes, it looks like 62, but I cannot tell for sure. Does anyone have a pic of a car painted 62? I also thought it might have been a 63/Mesa Sand. I will try to get to a Kinko's or something to scan the pictures, but any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated!

Randy, do you have any pics of your car? What is the interior's color? My dad's was sandlewood, or some sort of light color.

I don't have any pics on the hard drive. Next time I roll the car out of the garage, I'll take some and post them, since I need some 'before' shots anyway. The interior color was an off white or light tan. It's being changed to dark saddle and black.

Here's another one from the 2000 Chevellabration show in Nashville. It only shows the back end, but it's what my car would look like if it were restored to original, complete with the painted white top. Does anyone have a better photo of this car?

Awesome guys, thanks for the pics! If anyone has any others, I'd love to see them when you get a chance!
The pics I have from the 70's look like the ones posted here, especially the nice pic with the bird repellent!

Randy, if you do get pics, that would be awesome. My dad loved the car but my grandpa offered to sell him a 1972 Gran Torino Sport with less mileage for cheap and they could afford both cars. :( graemlins/angry.gif

Right after he bought it off of a used car lot, he had someone ask to buy it from him while he was filling it up for the first time. They offered him more than he had paid for it, but the color was so unusual that he could not part with it. He kicks himself every day for selling it when he bought the Torino (ick).

"Randy, the paint code is on the plate under the hood up on the cowl area, drvrs side."

That's what I was afraid of. Right now, my rear seat, my rear seat floor pan, and part of my instrument panel and dash are stacked on my hood. I can't even get to it to open it.

I do have some 35 mm photos of my car that were taken before I started the body work. I also have some nice 35 mm shots of a 71 SS with the burnt orange paint and black SS stripes that I took in Nashville back in 1999. If we have a member in the DFW area with a scanner, I can scan them and post them.

chevl71, I am almost positive that my dad's was that color. Your son is a lucky guy!
Thanks for the sweet pics! That color is unusual, but looks great to me.

Thanks!

I checked the color code; 62, burnt orange metallic. We'll have it at Nashville and hopefully mine will be there too. There were several the same color there last year.
