Got a console extension harness from M&H today and installed it tonight but there is a plug with three wires. The color of the wires are orange(possibly red, I have color shade troubles) white and gray. Any ideas? i know I can call them monday but thought I'd ask here to get a heads up. TIA Pete

They are for the console lighting. The orange is power to the rear courtesy light it is always hot, the white is the ground for the same it attaches to the door jamb and head light switches and the gray wire is for the shift indicator light it is part of the dash lighting. The white wire grounds when either door opens or when the head light switch is is rotated fully CCW.

If your dash harness might not have the mating connector. If you have a factory or a correct reproduction gauge dash harness it will have the connector. If you have the factory installed non gauge dash harness and the car didn't come with a console you probably don't have the connector.

Thanks Elree. The car is a non guage malibu so the connector isn't there. Would it be okay to connect the orange wire to the same orange wore the lighter is on as there is already a splice there from a previous owner. Thanks Pete

Yes that will work for the courtesy light power.
