Recently my long time body and shop man died. I had a long time relationship and he knew what I wanted for my 71 Elky. I live in the Oakland East Bay area (San Ramon). Recently a glass truck dropped a sheet of plate glass on the freeway right in front of my truck and put loads of scratches in my paint. Do you have any recommendations who in our area could do a quality job? Someone who is honest and knows about our passion. I can't afford a "show paint job", but I don't want orange peel or a crap repair! Thanks, Scott! E-mail is ok or call me at 925 623 8576.

You know Scott, I don't know many people in the area that do complete paints like you are after. Corvette City or Steves Auto body in Fremont would be a good start. I have known both these guys for years and they are stand up gentlemen. Steves just finished a 72 Mustang Conv for local business man that is in my brothers shop right now. It looks darn good to me. Not a show car, but just a nice weekend car.

HotRodz in Petaluma is one that I use to do business with as a Rep, they also did some good work. Not a "restoration" shop, but if you brought them the car striped of chrome and stuff, they would do a great job on paint and body.

My brothers brother-in-law just had a 65 Mustang fastback done at a shop in Oakland. I will be seeing it (I hope) on Friday and I will let you know if it is nice and find out the name of the shop. I don't remember the cost but it was very reasonable. And the best part, it was done in about four weeks! This is unheard of for a complete cosmetic restoration. I'll keep you posted.
