and am looking at the new HHR - great lookin vehicle and I need one that is lower to the ground, but still room for me and the doggies and carring things....cause after surgery I cannot get UP into my tahoe - can barely do it now. left knee dont bend too well. And less money would be nice!
Looked at the Equinox but not enough head room....had lots of pickup and go - but looked cheap inside. No HHR instock yet, but man thye are sharp looking. Kinda a van and cool ride. NOT like the PT cruiser...at first i thought it looked like it till i really got to looking. So glad cause I am no fan of the PT's. Sorry if somone has one - just not my thing.
What ya'll think?

From the photos I've seen they look like a retro late 40s Chevy Surburban, which I happen to like. Do they come with a V8?? RWD?

It would be cheaper to put an air ride sys on the Tahoe Rach :)

You should check out SAAB's new SUV. It's a Tahoe to start with, but they supposedly made it better, which may include lowering it.

Or - (gasp) a minivan.... Get one with the word "sport" stenciled on it. :)

I rented a Trailblazer while in Hawaii and was very happy with it. The HHR was much smaller than the Trailblazer. And the Trailblazer whould haul more brownies! :D

I thought about looking into one until I saw one. Kinda small and cheesy looking - almost like a little toy.

With the way gas prices are going I could hardly blame you.

I'm seriously concidering something with more mpg myself, but most things that get better mileage, that don't suck, cost too much, don't have 4 wheel drive or are too damn small for me to fit into.

What would I rather drive than my truck ?

New truck - no better mileage, cost alot
Newer Corvette - cost too much, no 4x4, no room for kiddies
New GTO - no 4x4, and kinda expensive, imported
GT Mustang - waiting list, no 4x4
Dodge Magnum - too expensive
Subau WRX - too small for 6'-4" person, and its an import
Trailblazer SS - not available yet, cost alot, mpg ?

had not seen an HHR in person yet - so small aint good. Had rented a trailblazer when I went to see my Mom in NM a few yrs ago - really liked it and it got superb gas mileage! Won't be towing BC for at least a yr...and need to save some $$$$ to buy another house, hate to rent.....payments on tahoe too darn high for it to just sit there and not be used. thats why i thought - time to trade her in. just went looking yesterday on a whim, was right across form the Chevy dealer in town after talking to a gal in her '69 Malibu at the gas station. :D hers is white with blue interior, really nice! Have already seen 4 Velle's since I got back and haven't really been out much. Still unpacking boxes and tryin to get house in order before surgery. I'm too anal about order i have been told. but if i don't do it now - i know i will try to do it after when i shouldn't. sheesh. anal and stuipd. i think i should read my own posts and learn from them huh? :D

They are what they are. Compact FWD great mileage car to go after the Scion XB, Honda Element and PT cruiser market. They are priced incredible for $16,990.00 you get 30MPG all power,cd a/c,automatic trans and remote start. The have a ton of room inside also. I don't know about the rest of the country but here no one can keep them in stock. We are selling every one we get the same day it comes in.

I am thinking about getting the wife one as well.

I think they are a neat little vehicle. I really like the front end styling on it. Its diffrent which is good in my book. 30 mpg is hard to beat and the $17,000 price tag is very affordable. It looks to be a great vehicle for my family. My wife doesn't need 4wd, we live in wisconsin, she knows how to drive in snow. The test drive we took in an HHR was nice. They may look small to some, but go test drive one before making assumed comments on them. I am 6' and had plenty of room. Not much diffent than our venture van really, just a little bit tighter in the interior, but its a car that is to be expected.

Same thing here, off the lots as fast as they get dropped off.

Thad, want a new mustang GT or any other new mustang come here. The lots are full, they aren't moving for crap here any more, they've run their course.

Thanks Jeff, around here its not just the snow and ice, (we get a lot of freezing and thawing) but the hills too. Not a high as out west but plenty steep.

If it gets too bad we stay home, but in general, if I want to go I'm going.
Four wheel drive, necessary? Not really, but still very nice to have.

I've actually been concidering an HHR for myself with the way gas prices are going. Don't think we'll ever see gas for less than 2.50/gal again.

Same here... the GTs sit on the lots, and the V6s all sell.

As for the HHR, I think they're ugly, but they're a very good value... cheap and can be used like a small truck, good mileage, etc. Go for it :) Maybe when everyone trades off their fullsize trucks, I'll be able to pick one up for cheap to use only when I need it :D

We just went through this for the wife's car. Ended up buying a '06 Mercedes C230 [ 2.5L 210 HP V6 with a 7 speed auto trans]. I 've had a few MB's over the years, this little sedan is real nice. Just under 1000 miles on it now, fuel mileage is a solid 25 in commuting traffic, I swear the car feels like you could run over it with a bulldozer and still open the doors. Maybe a little pricey, but when you consider what 35K gets you today, it's not all that bad. We went and looked at all the new popular cars in that price range as well as quite a few that were hovering around 40K. Feature for feature and factoring in build quality, these are nice. As much as I have been a GM fan over the years including Buick and Caddy, it's refreshing to know that this car will still look current 5 - 6- years from now.

Good luck,

Sorry if you thought that was aimed at you, but it wasn't Thad. Just saying living in wisconsin our whole lives we have learned to make due without 4wd for her. If the weather is bad, she stays home or takes my truck. The fuel mileage with 4wd trucks isn't worth the trade off for us. If she were only going to use it in the winter, thats a lot of driving the rest of the year with crappy mileage for nothing. Myself, being a contractor, I use the 4wd quite a bit on jobsites so I do need it.

I realize in PA. you guys get crappy weather as well
But look on the bright side, no hurricanes ;)
