Want to paint my power brake booster. Don't want to spend the $$ to have it plated. Not sure how real the Eastwood kit looks ? Any other colors or products that look good that I can use out of a spray can ? Thanks Steve

My '69 has the Eastwood treatment on it. Looks, OK but not near a 'plated' one. It is much better than old and dirty though. I have has a couple of 'uninformed' people ask me where I got it plated, its not near that good though. I did remove it, clean, sand and paint per instructions. I then coated it with a satin clear polyurethane. I also use silicone fluid so it doesn't eat the paint if I splash it.

Has anyone used an off the shelf one part paint that looks good?

Here's what I did to mine about 5 years ago (still looks great)
-Wire wheel all old paint, rust etc.
-One coat of epoxy primer
-Two coats of silver paint
-Light spray of brown leather dye (when applied in a light coat to the silver it looks like gold metallic)
-Randomly spray cranberry and jade green in different areas to simulate rainbow effect.
-Clear over all
I used an airbrush to spray dye and paints. It's a long process and subject to experimentation to get the right effect, but it does the trick!

That's some imagination you have. Going to give it a try. What kind of dye do you use ? And what kind of paint ? Laquer, enamel? I like a good challenge every now and then . Thanks Steve

It only costs $120 (+ shipping to CA one way-they pay for return) to have www.brakeboosters.com (http://www.brakeboosters.com) to rebuild it AND gold cad plate it. That includes plating the master cyl cap and front disc delay valve bracket as well. You usually have to spend another $30 to get the front half of the booster polished before plating in order to make it look right though. I know it's a chunk of change, but you won't believe the difference as soon as you open the hood. That booster is such a dominant feature of the engine compartment.

Replating is the only way to go!...And Steve is the guy to do it! Mine is perfect! He also plated all my bolts and hardware. He is at the site provided in the other reply...You won't be sorry! graemlins/thumbsup.gif

I gotta agree with Von and Black&RedSS...the ~$150 to have your booster REBUILT and replated with the extra polishing is the only way to go! My booster and new Bendix M/C look absolutely beautiful. The only regret you will have is how bad it makes everything else look in your engine compartment. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Have it plated by Steve, it is worth the money. Face it the booster is about the biggest piece of metal that is bolted in your engine bay and it sticks out like a sore thumb when it is less than perfect.

Sounds like if you want it to look right ,step up and and spend the $$. I'm one who wants it to look right and was looking for the cheap way out. Has any one seen the booster in the Ground Up catalog listed as NEW from the original manufacturer in correct Gold Cadium color ? 199.95 less 20.00 for Team Chevelle discount.Don't think mine needs rebuilt it has a pretty new looking rebuilt stamp on it.Maybe sell it, and buy a new one ? Another option, any thoughts on the NEW booster? Or just have the old one plated it's not pitted bad at all? Steve
