hey all

just a novice starting some patchwork here, have purchased some ppg stuff (topcoat and DPLF epoxy primer) to go with 3M's Automix, a panel bonding adhesive. I also have ppg's acryli-clean DX330, a wax and grease remover.
I am afraid each company will be unwilling to commit to compatibility with another in case it comes back to them. 3M calls for N.08984 General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner to remove grease, wax and tar. Am I safe using ppg's DX330 for both their primer and 3Ms adhesive?

Also, I have noticed some light surface rust on the inside of my fender (I am repairing the lower part behind the wheel and in front of the door). I have not found POR15 to be completely reliable after pulling my inner fenders and yes, I preppped that project correctly. Any chance ppg's dplf epoxy primer will make a good sealer if the rust is sanded off well?

thanks for any help

Dan

It's generally reccomended to stay with one product line from start to finish.

As for inner fenders, I don't why the Por didn't hold up for you. We hear about this on occassion and I cannot explain why Por just won't work for some people. But Eastwood sells an alternative product called Corroless that lots of people swear by, and a few of them prefer it over Por 15. www.eastwoodcompany.com (http://www.eastwoodcompany.com)

They sell it in chassis black, which would be the correct color for inner fenders. I do believe it requires the use of their primer. Costwise, it's a bit less expensive than Por.

I know its recommended to stay within the same product line. Companies don't include other companies products in their research and therefore will not say much about them. I was curious if anyone had tried it without negative results.

The POR issue is sad. I've used a lot of it and the inner fenders are the only place i've noticed anything sour. I hope everything else is ok

The guys have said it all, but let me say, you have NO warrentee. If you are not a shop who regularly buys product, you will have the "taillight" warrentee. That being said, follow EVERY single thing that is outlined in the tech sheets and you will be fine.
