: Cowl tag and build sheet Ques.
704EVER Sep 20th, 05, 10:14 AM The build date on my cowl reads 05D337 and it matches box #10 on my build sheet 20-0337. The body # is BT36021 on the cowl but in box #8 it reads BT36760. I thought the cowl # and box #8 should be the same. It's an Arlington car. Thanks for any info
Finally Sep 20th, 05, 1:55 PM My body# matches, cowl tag and build sheet, Arlington car. Perhaps you have a build sheet from another car. Happened a lot I hear, all they were trying to do was get rid of the piece of paper they no longer needed. It's not like they were supposed to be placed in the car in random locations. Do the options, colors, etc. match up?
704EVER Sep 20th, 05, 2:33 PM It's definetly the original sheet for the car. I found it by accident 6 yrs ago on the floor under the passenger side sound barrier. I've had the car 25+ years, I bought it from my aunt in 1980. My uncle was the second owner and I also have two POP cards, I have the original from the 1st owner in Ill. and I have the 2nd replacement card with my uncles name and adress. My aunt said the car was only 5-6 months old when he bought it. The cowl tag body # reads BT36021 and box 8 reads BT36760, I don't know if they are supposed to match, while box # 10 reads 20-0337 to match the 05D337.
Finally Sep 20th, 05, 4:12 PM My point was that often on the assembly line a buildsheet from one car would get stuffed into another car. The assembly line worker was just trying to get rid of it. It wasn't supposed to placed in the car in the first place. By stuffing them in the car they didn't end up with a pile of them at the end of the day that they were just going to throw away anyway.
Does the vin# on the buildsheet match the vin tag. The vin# is in the upper lefthand corner of the buildsheet, last 6 digits in a larger font.
704EVER Sep 20th, 05, 4:33 PM Yes, my vin # matches, and it's in the upper right hand corner. I was just curious to know if the BT36760 in box # 8 was supposed to match the BT36021 that is stamped on the cowl tag?
Finally Sep 20th, 05, 5:04 PM Well I do believe it should so I have no explanation.
704EVER Sep 21st, 05, 8:24 PM Any other help on this question ,I know there are a lot of other experts on the subject, I'm just curious to know if the cowl tag body # should match box # 8. Thanks for your time
elcamino Sep 22nd, 05, 3:31 PM Every one I have ever seen does.
Something got screwed up in the body bank. VIN assigned to the wrong body.
Any chance you can post build sheet and cowl tag photos to see with our own eyes the descrepency?
DaleM Sep 22nd, 05, 6:25 PM Agree with Mike above. I have quite a few 70 build sheets and where the body tag was available for comparison, they matched. FWIW, the 05D is the body date. The other three numbers should match block 10 as you know. Also, Arlington used a different numbering scheme for block 10 than the other plants and it's doesn't include the date like other plants. Where yours is '20-0337', other plants used the format of 'nn nn-nn'. Just one mode oddity between plants.
