I am wanting som input on which Tranny to go with. i have an 86 chevy p/u pretty heavy, with 400 or so horsepower, and 4:11 out back. Any input will be appreciated. It will be mostly street but some racing planned. I had a th350 on there and burnt the pump. So thanks for any suggestions. Also this is a great forum lots of interesting knowlege in these articles.

As you already have 350 I suggest you stick with that tranny so that you do not conplicate things with driveshaft lengths or needed output shaft. A 350 can easily be built to handle the power you have for a lot less than changing over to a different trannt.

why not use a 700r4?overdrive and a lockup converter coupled with a 3.06 first gear make for for killer take offs and excellent gas mileage.
