On some models of Chevelles, I just love the monochromatic paint schemes. How hard is it to prep no only obvious things like bumpers but smaller trim like grille pieces for paint and not have them any more succeptable to chipping than the body?

as long as the substrate is prepped properly, and care is taken in cleaning and applying the paint, you shouldn't have any more of an issue than you do with the rest of the car. Of course you could use "Adhesion Promoters" but they don't make up for proper preperation. As well you have to remember these items take more abuse than the rest of the car.. bumpers get bumped, bugged, rocked, all more often than your hood.. so the paint will be more succeptable.. Although if you use a rock guard or chip guard you should be A OK...
