: trying to find a "CRAZY" intake manifold
Rick T Sep 18th, 05, 10:22 AM alright, this isn't for a chevelle, but its my dad's 1960 vette he's restoring, and he wants a crazy intake,
what he wants is the intake from american grafiti, "6 strong-birds", which is an intake with six 1 barrel carbs. which must look absolutely insane,
BUT, i have no clue where to look for it, does any know of any placed that make intakes like this? if not we will settle for an intake tha houses three 2 barrels, but once again we dont know where to look.
-thanks guys

Popular with the flathead guys.

This one was in bench racing. there are plenty on E-Bay and large swap meets. They are a time consuming, patience-wrenching, headache to tune.
A cool alternitive would be this

Wild looks with tuning and driving simplicity.
Or, for a four-Weber system, you can't beat an Inglese system.

lemonice Sep 18th, 05, 11:00 AM i could not find the intake you are looking for ,but i did find a 3 duce setup. its in PAW, part#C-357-B THREE-DEUCE. $271. now this book is a couple years old.their number is 1-818-678-3100. they may even have the manifold you are looking for, but just did not have it in their catalog. ask them..(PROSTREET)
Dustinyork Sep 18th, 05, 12:20 PM six strombergs were a common setup on street rods in the 60s and ive seen quite a few at shows . the problem is finding the intake , the six one barrells needed , the linkage and assorted parts . i hear there hard to tune but they look great . if hes hell bent on this you coould find the parts . try hemmings? and some street rod publications. i would try to talk him into a tri power or dual carb set if i could they would be easier to tune and probally make more power .6 carbs sound like a pain , but then again i woud try it myself lol .
mac762 Sep 18th, 05, 12:35 PM The cross-ram 2x4 that offenhauser makes is a pretty crazy looking intake.
Dustinyork Sep 18th, 05, 12:47 PM my machinist has a smokey yunick crossram off a 67 z28 but wont part with it , it is a pretty nasty looking intake though !
pdq67 Sep 18th, 05, 4:24 PM Offy still sell's new 6x2 intakes if not mistaken..
Personally I would use their 3x2 topped, cross-ram b/c I figure a lot of the fuel distribution should be better than the 2x4 top.

Schurkey Sep 18th, 05, 5:11 PM Offy still sells the "Z-28 Clone" crossram manifold brand new. You can buy it from eBay rapists for $600, or from PAW for a lot less.
The 3X2 and Weber top piece are discontinued, though. I "think" the single-four is also discontinued. The dual four top and the dual-four linkage and gaskets were still current though.
Offy is a goofy company. Basically, I think they're trying to go out of business. They're near impossible to get ahold of, and when I did call, they claimed that they were "out" of catalogs, I couldn't even buy one. They went through the motions of taking my name and address to send one when they "came in", but that's been a year or more ago and I've heard nothing.
Greybeard Sep 18th, 05, 5:36 PM The Smokey Ram as well as the Offy "look" like the Z28 manifold, but are not the same thing.

dylanjans Sep 19th, 05, 11:19 PM John Milner's deuce coupe had 4 two barrel carbs. It was a Man-a-fre intake. Those appear on ebay every once in a great while. The 58' Chevy did have the six strombergs you speak of. I am creeped out by the idea of multiple carbs. I can only imagine how hard it would be to tune six of them....
Cameano Sep 20th, 05, 1:37 AM If I were inclined to run something of that nature (6 carbs), it'd only be for a show car/hotrod. Being such, and not run hard, I'd keep the engine fairly stock, run just the center two carbs, pull the throttle blades on the outboard carbs, and stick a piece of sheetmetal under each carb, to seal off the port. That'd help big time keeping it streetable and reliable. Nobody'd know, either. ;)

The 58 impala that Toad was driving for Ron Howard had the 6 stromburgs.

Jimmy P Sep 21st, 05, 12:23 PM Hey Rick T, did any of those tickle your dad's fancy?
Rowdy Sep 22nd, 05, 6:31 AM Definitely a plea for Hilborn injection, the original mechanical "driven" fuel pump or the TPI/EFI conversion (preferable). They are the epitome of cool, especially for that particular application. Eight 12" anodized tubes sticking through that low flat hood (between the two contours). "Muscle Machines",
the hot rod all metal toy cars with the exagerated "Cartoon" look, depict all of the models offered in 1 of 3 different styles. 1.Hood (w/wo scoop) 2. Blown (inj. or 2X4 bbl) 3. Hilborn injection (tall tubes).
About a month ago, I posted one off eBay, already partially converted to EFI, including fuel rails with 75 lb injectors, tapped and plumbed for individual port vac. to sensor, I think it used a Ford throttle position sensor. It was for a Big Block with rect heads, I had serious intentions of bidding ($360) but got tied up and missed the end, sold for $410, cheap, even as a magazine rack or paper weight.

Rowdy Sep 22nd, 05, 5:18 PM I don't get it, is there an extension that eludes me, or is that dank garage "IT".
