How do you go about removing the front clip from a chevelle/el camino. What is the disassembly order? Any tricks?

do you want it left intact, with the fenders, inner fenders, grill and core support left assembled or do you want everything in seperate pieces ?

Start by removing hood;
Scribe marks on the hinge and hood so you when you put it baack on you can align the marks on the hood with the marks on the hinges

Remove Battery

unplug wiring harness at bulk head connector
(you will need a 1/4" drive - 5/16" deep socket)

Remove fan, shroud and radiator

Remove 9/16" headed bolts that bolt fenders to fire wall, and door jams
two bolts underneath will most likly be the biggest problem because usually they are so rusty you have to break the "U" clips to get them out

Remove the front bumper

Remove the two bolts that hold the core support to the frame rails and remove the rubber bumper/mounts

be sure and save all shims and remember how many and which ones go on which bolt

disconnect windshield washer and vacuum hoses disconnect green temperature sending unit wire from inner fender

I *think* that's about all

Also, don't forget the bolts that attach the inner fenders to the firewall!

I'm planning on removing my front clip soon, and want to remove it intact. Any other tricks for doing this? I plan on putting a piece of 2x4 along the rear once its off to help box it in.

Just removed the front clip today and ended up running some 1" conduit between the fenders and the core support to help stabilize the clip. Turned out very well, and there is no flex at all.
