: a shaved chevelle??
bri2203 Jun 6th, 04, 2:29 PM Hey, I am new owner of 1970 malibu chevelle. The car is painted lime green with a vinal top and is in OK condition so i think i will repaint black, light green, or dark green soon.
Right now it has all of the trim pieces(wheel well moldings, fender moldings, rocker moldings and fiber optics!!) Should i keep this stuff?
My idea was to take off ALL of the trim, shave the door handles, and take off the vinal top. Does anyone agree with this?
I am 17 years old and i want some of the older guys to give there opnion because i want to be respected by them.
Brian
sevt_chevelle Jun 6th, 04, 4:00 PM A nice shave job always looks nice ;)
BUT in my opinion shaving the handles is a PIA. It might look cool, but more hassle then whats its worth.
On a show car that only sees the trailer and some grass or concrete, knock yourself out. But on something that will get driving daily or on the weekends
Try this take some duct tape and cover up the handle for a week. You'll find out how COOL shaved handles are...Eric
bri2203 Jun 6th, 04, 5:45 PM Well my chevelle is not going to be a daily driver, it is only going to be driven on nice summer days. I really need a beater for winter but i guess i will drive my other baby during the winter. 2003 s-10 lower 2 inches, with the extreme body kit, big sway bars, with 17 inch wheels

69chevelle69 Jun 6th, 04, 8:49 PM I dont know about everyone else but the door handles on a chevelle are some of the nicest looking out there I wouldnt shave them...
DaleM Jun 6th, 04, 10:24 PM I've been driving with no door handles on my 67 for 5 years and I find it is not inconvenient at all. If anything, it keeps people from running up to the passenger side and trying to open the door all the time. I have electric windows as well and I either send the windows down just before I get to the car or pop the doors open.
I don't have any of a 70, but below are links to 3 photos of a 72 that looks pretty nice.

West72Chevelle Jun 7th, 04, 3:56 AM Yeah man, nice dime. You should definately take Aaron's word and mine and join S10Fourm, lots of good info. I've got a 99 4.3 reg. cab sportside as my daily. 3/3 drop "Belltech spindles, DJM coils, 3" Belltech blocks and Bilstien shocks", Xtreme wheels with 245/50/16's, Goodmark Gen II hood, clear corners, euro tails, shaved emblems, billet bowtie. The motor's pretty stock just a modded airbox and descreened MAF.
What's up Aaron, I've been a member of the site for a pretty long while now, just haven't posted in a long time. Car's lookin' good. graemlins/thumbsup.gif
As for shaving the handles, I think it would be fine. Just get a good kit from Autoloc with good solenoids and make sure everything is mounted well and wired up right and you should be fine. That '72 that McIntosh posted is SWEET! Wish my '72 looked that damn good.
feedphillipnow Jun 7th, 04, 4:49 AM Arron! You aint talkin' about me are you? ;) hah, I think it's definately something to condier, I slept on it for about a year then one day I realised I needed something to do and I have a welder now so I just randomly went at it without thinking anymore, I love it. It CAN be a pain in the ass alot of people say though. For everyday use you'll need all the good stuff, if you cant do any of it yourself it can easily cost a $GRAND$ Early $400 for the kit w/ solenoids, you may need the poppers which dont come with, and the shave job just the body work. That really varies on shop prices, I got priced at 250 a side just for the work. Eff that, I did it all myself. But all that bull on only hot rods or cars of this era... blah blah, kiss it, its a car do you what you want with it ;) Just don't lift it, haha.... Lifted Chevelles... oh jeeze...
feedphillipnow Jun 7th, 04, 4:50 AM Oh yeah, I agree. Only go with Autoloc' Just pray you don't need there "tech support" though :D
BowtieAaron Jun 7th, 04, 9:45 AM What's up Aaron, I've been a member of the site for a pretty long while now, just haven't posted in a long time. Arron! You aint talkin' about me are you? hah yeah i was talking about you man. i think after i get a job, ima shave the handels maybe next year, and take the car into tech and re-shoot the dooor, plus i plan on gettin a new hood so, might as well do it all at once..

d1_bradley Jun 8th, 04, 2:53 PM Just a reminder, Drag Strips like door handles. Most won't even let you run at test and tune night without them.
zefhix Jun 10th, 04, 3:48 PM hey, good info about the track, I had no idea. In fact, is it in the NHRA rulebook? I don't remember seeing it but I wonder why it wouldn't be there to begin with...makes sense. Anyway, I'm in the process of shaving my entire 70 chevelle.....no trunnk lock, no side reflectors, no door handles...nothing. We're even filling in the rocker moulding lines....
The door handles and fender markers aren't done yet but you get the idea.....

Clint44 Jun 10th, 04, 6:54 PM My Elky has been shaved of all the emblems. Just click on the link in my sig,if you want.
feedphillipnow Jun 10th, 04, 6:55 PM Ohhh I like that, That was my original plan to dump the rear markers to. When I bought new fenders for the 71' I did a 70' Front end conversion and I ended up still ordering the 71' fenders because they didnt have the turn signals. As for the rears I wanted to weld them out but I think Ive decided to keep them. And the trunk, I keep my battery in there and anything for emergency back up for the handles gone and all, I think I'll keep my trunk lock. I love it without though. Not bad at all ;) graemlins/hurray.gif
zefhix Jun 10th, 04, 7:40 PM Oh, yeah..... the trunk and driver door have "hidden" manual bypasses for emergency....just a bracket and some bicycle cable...works great. Y'know...the chevelles just have some beautiful body lines on them(esepcially the factory functional cowl hood; which I have) and I think a lighter, solid color with a slight amount of very fine flake mixed in really shows that off. That's really why we're shaving everything and removing all the emblems. We don't want you to be distacted ;)
daveseitz Jun 13th, 04, 9:07 PM Svet I think was talking about flush mounted handles. That would set it apart and smooth lines.
The 16 year old WithA 454 Jan 1st, 06, 8:25 PM actually flush handle sound like a cool idea, imagin doing something like what the 3rd generation vettes have. I bet that'd look great!
bri2203 Jan 1st, 06, 9:35 PM I decided to shave the emblems, most of the trim and mount up some sport mirrors.
Brian
kwiknd Jan 1st, 06, 9:50 PM Doors, Trunk and markers all gone buh bye on my 69
Dan
Professor_SS Jan 3rd, 06, 11:48 PM when you guys shaved your velles, what do you do about the door locks?
RacnJsn95 Jan 4th, 06, 10:20 PM Personally I think shaving takes away from the whole muscle car experience. You can't beat all that chrome! I think shaved old cars look tacky, but that's just my opinion, no offence.
