: ZEX perimeter plate, nitrous system
Bob West Sep 15th, 05, 10:15 AM Does anyone have any first hand experience with this system? I'm not going to use it to get in the 10's, thats in the bag this fall. But my son is getting close to my bests using nitrous on my old motor,he's gonna try it again friday night. I need to do something to put it a little farther out of reach before the tracks close :D
69boo307 Sep 15th, 05, 12:13 PM I've always heard the ZEX stuff associated with 'ricers', never heard much good about it.

They make a plate that sprays from the perimeter, seems like it might be more effective than a spraybar, supposed to have a cooling effect on the fuel as well. Comp Cams has their name on it. 100-300 hp. A bit more expensive too. You can also see it at http://www.zex.com/ click on product info, then nitrous systems, then carbureted.
How about it Ryan? What do you know about this kit?
blown70 Sep 15th, 05, 1:10 PM Looks like a good kit.As far as cooling goes...any nitrous kit will cool the intake charge.Thats the nature of gasses. It has a good range with 100-300hp.I would try it,but definately incrementally. If that doesn't work to get you in the 10's there is always boost! :)
71454Chevelle Sep 15th, 05, 1:21 PM Could you install the Zex plate with any manufacturers N2O kit?
I wouldn't mind trying that plate with my NOS Cheater system.
BillsCamino Sep 15th, 05, 1:25 PM Bob...I've noticed that BG plate. Seems like a good design..in theory anyhow.
Should work with any system I would imagine.
Bob West Sep 15th, 05, 1:34 PM Travis, I'll get 10's n/a!! but, with the cam I've got, I don't want to go over a 125-150 shot, at 107 lsa, its too narrow. Just gotta keep the boy at bay :D He's running his car tomorrow night, depends on what happens, might have to buy it sooner than I wanted to ;)
10secBu Sep 15th, 05, 2:15 PM If he hasn't bought the kit yet, I'd have him call Jon Phillips at Nitrous Express. If I ever put a system on my car it will either be a NX kit, or a Wilson system.
66 283 Sep 15th, 05, 2:56 PM My first impression is: gimmick
This impression was strengthened when I typed in zex.com in my webbrowser and the first thing that makes me laugh - they are buying sparkplugs, relabelling them ZEX and then getting suckers to buy their special nitrous plugs. They are the only ones with "Ignitor core technology?" Blow a little more smoke up my azz! ha ha ha haha!
All the product lines of COMP in my opinion including their cams are gimmicks. I have been there, toured their shop twice, and it is obvious that they spend $99 on advertising for every $1 they spend on product development. Holley owns NOS, BG owns nitrousworks, Edelbrock's late entry into the market, COMP wanted a piece of the market share too.
If you are going to spend hard earned money on a plate system, I would go with the tried and true NOS or NX - and if it was my money I would call speedtech and get one of their plates complete with tuneup flowmaps!
If you are serious about nitrous power and want a proven tuneup, order a complete system from Jeff Prock at www.appliednitrous.com (http://www.appliednitrous.com/) .
If you buy NOS the best place to buy is www.nitroussupply.com (http://www.nitroussupply.com/) the originator - Mike Thermos.
I know he nailed the tuneup on our briggs fogger-mower first time out. We set the flowing fuel pressure where he recommended with holley blue pump and regulator and the grass has never been shorter (pic attached)

Yellow68SS Sep 15th, 05, 4:19 PM NX is my choice. I was debating on the zex plate and the NX gemini twin. they are both bar-less designs. I could not be happier with my gemini twin!! i picked up 12 mph hitting the 100 shot about 150 off the line! couldn't hook on motor of the line any way. ran a 11.5 a 125 with a 1.9 60'!!
cant wait to get it hooking and get up to a 200-250 shot.
The gemini goes from a 50 up to a 300 in 50hp increments.
Bob West Sep 15th, 05, 8:05 PM Nice pic Ryan :D What is the difference between a powershot and a sniper kit,,,the sniper is cheaper and adjustable up to 150, but the powershot is fixed at 125hp????
I like the shoepolish stripe on the rear tire to check for wheelspin :D
Bob West Sep 15th, 05, 8:31 PM Ive used a powershot system,,,about 25 yrs ago, back when nitrous first went on the market. It made my 13.20 car run 12.20..but went back thru the motor and it ran 12.20's and the 125 shot only brought it down to 11.70's...I'd like to be able to go up to a 150 shot max.
Doug F. Sep 15th, 05, 9:51 PM Sniper has "medical" bottle valve and different solenoids. The powershot is NOT adjustable. If you go NOS, get a super powershot which is adjustable.
The NOS kits have stainless steel, 100% flowed, proprietary, precision machined jets which is very good.
77 cruiser Sep 15th, 05, 10:06 PM Latest issue of CC they tested some plate systems ZEX was one, if that helps.
Bob West Sep 15th, 05, 10:09 PM Thanks guys,,,after NX was mentioned I checked their website and found this http://www.nitrousexpress.com/Pages/HolleyHitman.htm it has a spraybarless plate also, and alot more reasonable than the ZEX kit....
CaptCrunch Sep 15th, 05, 10:09 PM Personally I would go with a NOS cheater kit and know you are using a system that has been reliable for years and knowing that it will easily handle any growth needs you have in the future. The spray patterns and performance of both the NOS cheater and big shot plates IMO is the best you will get out of the box. I have been using NOS for over 10 years with very little problems other then my own stupidity and bad itch to win. :)
When was the last time you saw a racer shooting 300hp+ in nitrous running a kit other then NOS taking a victory photo? NX had it's follower's early, but more and more of them have been disappearing at the track.
Just my $.02. Good luck keeping the kido looking at your taillights.
Bob West Sep 15th, 05, 10:15 PM I don't really have any growth needs. There's a guy in town with a turbo Civic that wants some of my Chevelle, he's run a best of 11.2x, but not at full boost. I would just like to have a 100-150 shot on hand just incase :D and of course, gotta raise the bar for my son too, he's gettin close with Nitrous also.
66 283 Sep 15th, 05, 10:59 PM I like the shoepolish stripe on the rear tire to check for wheelspin :D
oh, and there IS wheelspin when you launch it on "rabbit." Holy fluck batman, the owner/driver - my buddy Craig, darn near caved in the back of his skull the first time it hooked before we added the wheelie bar. One revolution of the tires, tractor turns 90 deg, buddy cracks his head on the pavement.
10secBu Sep 15th, 05, 11:44 PM Bob, look at the NX Hitman Plus kit. It's the one I'm considering if I ever decide to go the the "Dark Side" and spray. It's got more adjustments than the standard Hitman, plus a few other things. I found a good price here...

The TC board won't allow for the real URL.
replace the nitrou***man.html with n i t r o u s h i t m a n without any spaces.
Bob West Sep 16th, 05, 12:12 AM thanks Todd, those prices are the same as NX website, cheaper than Summit or Jegs though, I sent a couple emails asking questions, leaning towards NX now
505Nova Sep 16th, 05, 9:38 AM Bob I'd have to agree with the other guys the NOS Cheater w/adjustable jets is a good investment. Something that if you want to upgrade to larger more/hp plate down the road you'll be able to easily sell too. Also highly recommend Mike Nelson at Nitrous Warehouse, great folks to deal with and Mike will answer your questions for you. BTW Mike's been tuning on one of the fastest PSCA drag radial cars, he does know his stuff and that advice can be very valuable to you. Good luck and hope to see that Chevelle deep into the 10's soon.
Darracq Sep 16th, 05, 10:39 AM You can run a 200 shot no problem with your cam, my buddy runs 200 on a 302 for with a 106lc with KB hyper pistions. 150-175 easy.
mike1985 Sep 16th, 05, 10:43 AM Sniper has "medical" bottle valve and different solenoids. The powershot is NOT adjustable. If you go NOS, get a super powershot which is adjustable.
The NOS kits have stainless steel, 100% flowed, proprietary, precision machined jets which is very good.
That's funny... I use brass screws with holes drilled in them for jets and gain 2 sec. and 21 MPH on a 200 shot. My kit is mostly homemade.
Nos, Edelbrock, NX would be my choice, but mostly buy a kit that's adjustable from 100-200 in case you ever decide you want to spray more, like next year, or 5 yrs from now.
Harold Sutton Sep 17th, 05, 1:48 AM Hi Robert, I'll see you in Springfield sometime later today at the Fairgrounds and maybe we'll talk nitrous. My son's tried a couple and i think we have the best one now for our application and the car keeps getting faster.
Bob West Sep 17th, 05, 10:08 AM Is Brian and Mills racing too? I'll be at the track all day today, and all night too. I love the show they put on for SMN. The best part is that I'm not racing and I get to mingle in the pits and watch all the racing.
Shawn Gilbert Sep 18th, 05, 11:51 AM Bob,
Just my little horror story with BG Nitrous works ( i just could not resis that yellow bottle :) ) Seriously i figured someone famous for modifying and supertuning carbs would make a N20 kit with detail. The kit functions fine its getting replacement parts thats a pain in the ass. Twice i needed a replacement part and twice i had to wait about 6-7 weeks to get it. Summit and jegs stock very little and manufacture direct was terrible. Just an FYI
I have a question what heads, header, and compression do you run on your 72?
thanks
Shawn
Bob West Sep 18th, 05, 11:56 AM 781's, Hedman 2"x3" headers, and 10.53-1 compression.
505Nova Sep 20th, 05, 11:33 AM Hey Bob, check out this months Car Craft Magazine, they have a plate shoot out article in it. Looks like the Wilson Pro-Flow is the one to get.
DNTRYME Aug 6th, 06, 2:41 PM i just bought the zex nitrous plate system, i have not instaled it yet but as soon as i do i will tell yall if it works good or not. and give yall times on and off the bottle.
