I am restoring a 1970 SS and am not sure how to properly restore the steering linkage, mainly the tie rod ends. If I paint the tie rod ends, the paint will come off the threaded portion when they are threaded into the adjusting sleeve and then eventually rust. What is the correct color for the center link, tie rod ends, idler arm, etc. I have tried POR-15 Metal Mask but it does not look quite right. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Natural steel, as the drive shaft. You can use same methods on linkage parts.

Are you reusing used parts or getting new ones? Degrease them, have them lightly glass beaded, use metal prep, rinse off with water, scuff up with red scotchbrite pad, then spray with boeshield which will keep them from rusting.
