I went to my local parts guy for a water pump and the pump that is listed for a 396 1969 engine has a reverse flow, The 1968 396 has a different number and a standard flow which is correct? does anyone have the original water pump number for the 396 1969 so i can cross reference it . Thanks

'69 water pump has 'standard' flow, not reverse flow. The difference between a '68 and '69 is that a '69 is the "long" style pump. This means that the fan sits out farther from the engine. Both use a V belt drive. The 'reverse' flow didn't start till the "flat" single belt era.

The part number is 3931065 and was sent in by the shop we're building the engine for at the moment. It's on 1969 BB 396 resto he's finishing up now.
