: How do I remove yellow road paint?
woodstock Apr 30th, 03, 12:31 AM Ok, I admit, this actually isn’t exactly Chevelle related, but this could have just as easily happened to the Chevelle… fortunately it didn’t. smile.gif
Somewhere along the way, I drove my truck through some recently painted yellow road lines. Some of the resulting splatters seem like they’re a 1/16th of an inch thick. I thought I could just pick some of them off, but they’re stuck on there like iron. Anybody have any ideas on how to get this stuff off without damaging the truck’s paint?
Thanks.
JWagner Apr 30th, 03, 12:46 AM Try lacquer thinner or just simply paint your car to match that yellow. From what I have seen years ago the road paints were super fast dry lacquers. Maybe today it is different.
RC 70 Apr 30th, 03, 12:57 AM It's gonna be hard. Try some thinner and then wash off real good with water and then wax. Happened to me a couple of years ago and some of ithe paint is still there.
rthlc Apr 30th, 03, 2:37 AM I'd try some WD40 first, it's amazing what it an a little elbow grease can take off without any risk of damage to the original finish.
Don_Lightfoot Apr 30th, 03, 9:14 AM That stuff is a bear, happened to my truck a couple of years ago as well. I used a credit card to chip most of it off, but unfortunately I can't remember what else, if anything, I used. Good luck Dave.
70_Malibu Apr 30th, 03, 9:22 AM You could use a polisher and a wool pad with some 3M #3 compound. Use a slower RPM (feather the trigger or use a slower setting on a variable speed polisher) and "melt" it off. Be careful not to burn your paint!! Takes a certain touch. Be careful! Follow up with a foam pad and swirl remover to finish it if needed, once it's off.

70L34 May 1st, 03, 10:40 AM This happened to my daily driver a couple of years ago and I just got around to doing something about it. Used the Meguiars clay bar and worked at it for a couple of hours and it took all the paint off. No damage to the finish. This is what I would recommend.
woodstock May 1st, 03, 10:24 PM Thanks guys… I appreciate your help… lots of good suggestions here. I’ll give a couple of the simpler ones a shot this weekend.
chev64 May 2nd, 03, 7:40 AM IIRC, the highway paint is some kind of plastic and not really paint, just an FYI.
GAP1 May 2nd, 03, 12:27 PM Got some white road paint on my 97 Silverado in 97.(when it was brand new of course)
Six NY winters later and some of that stuff is still inside the wheelwheels
