: Compressor PSI setting for HVLP ?

I see on the product bulletin for my MC160 clear urethane that the psi for an HVLP gun should be 8 - 10 at the air cap. Same for my MBC basecoat. What psi should I set my gauge to on the compressor ? Should it be set to that range ? I do not have a gauge at the gun. Thanks for any advice

we need to know your spray gun at least, probably tip size also. On my Sharpe Platinum, the gun manufacturer tells me to have 50 psi at the gun handle which turns into 10 psi at the cap. I set my pressure regulator on the wall near the compressor at 55 psi. I lose about 4 psi through my 40 feet of hose before it gets to the gun. I have a gauge and regulator at the gun also, but I find it just as easy to regulate the psi at the gun handle by my regulator on my compressor wall where the hose connects.

I have a Husky that I just bought at Home Depot. I do not know the specifics right now, but will look tonight. I'm asking because it seems my Craftsman 33 gal compressor cannot keep up with the gun. Pressure dropped part of the way through the job. I think that was the cause for the minor orange peel on my deck lid (underside). I assume that I want to be using a 1.5 tip ? It seemed like I was getting quite a bit of overspray later in the spraying process also.
Thanks for any tips graemlins/waving.gif

Yes on the 1.5 tip, thats what is recommended. My current compressor is 5hp 60 gallon and barely keeps up, HVLP uses alot of air!
The overspray is just the Omni. I noticed a big difference in it over other products. Finish was ok but damn overspray everwhere in the booth, crap stuck to everything. Not trying to knock Omni but never again, there are better products out there.
