67shovel Sep 12th, 05, 9:06 AM Chassis black, not flat and not gloss. It's semi gloss black
66 MYSTERY CHEVELLE Sep 12th, 05, 9:17 AM Not to be picky.. but I think Chassis Black would be too glossy for core support or fenderwells.. more of a satin black IMO.. but you may not be doing a Nut and bolt correct resto either??
malibuss67 Sep 12th, 05, 10:26 AM this is a 25k original mile mint survivor original paint car,not a resto. i am just detailing the engine compartment which was stale looking but 100% correct so i want it as correct as i can get it.
Steves65 Sep 14th, 05, 7:36 AM I have used GM reconditioning paint.... But the stuff I used was trunk spatter paint... You'll need that and the clear coat to spray over it. It worked great for me.
Steve
I used under hood black by eastwood it looks like great...its the closest thing to original that I found out there.
malibuss67 Sep 15th, 05, 1:36 PM did you use air gun or spray cans on your underhood black? if air gun,how many quarts did you need for the job? j.b
I had someone use a air gun, not me I cant paint,,,, I went throught 1 1/2 quarts. I did the complete engine compartment and underside of hood. It does come in spary cans... how may it will take ?? I couldnt tell you. I brought one so i can touch up if needed.
Malibu67, There are a few different type of paints to use. The one I use most often is PPG Duracryl Lacquer "underhood Black". It is a factory packaged low gloss black in quarts. If you don't like to use a gun to spray it, you can purchase a Preval rechargable/re-fillable sprayer. Its like an aresol, but rechargable. You also can use Krylon Semi-flat black in a spray can.
malibuss67 Sep 16th, 05, 12:13 PM i used krylon semi flat spray paint on the frame and firewall. it is passable but but a little flatter than i prefer. i want the tubs a little more brighter and i am using an air gun on those parts.
MileHiSS Sep 16th, 05, 4:20 PM Use PPG DPLF black primer and use it one to one with the activator.
