Went out to my areas yesterday/today to start getting them ready for a good season. Took my 4 year old boy with me yesterday and he got to see 2 fawns. He got a kick out of that. He had his Red Rider with him and acted like he got them.. well anyways getting excited about hunting season and thought I would see if anyone else was getting their stuff ready?

GREAT!!

I still remember when my Dad took me duck hunting when I was a little-bitty pup with my Daisy BB gun.

The next year he bought me a JC Higgins (Sears/Robuck), O/U 20 gauge double to shoot b/c I am left-handed and back then left-handed safety guns were kinda rare!!

Anyway, the next year, I knocked a "mud-hen" outta the air before Dad could tell me not to shoot it b/c I didn't know better.. I remember him saying what a good shot it was but not to kill anything we can't EAT!!!

8 or 9, maybe 10 years old..

Love Father and Son stuff.

Dad left us back in the early '60's and now that our beautiful red-headed baby girl has presented us with our first Grandbaby girl, I sure wish the my old Man AND my Mom was around to go "gaa-gaa" over her!! As well as the Wife's side too...........

She got her red hair from him.....

It's 0630 hear in Alaska and I'm waiting for my buddy to show up. We are going into a Forest Service cabin for a few days of moose and black bear hunting. The weather is great and I can't wait. Good Luck.

Yes! My horses are boarded on 110 acres about 3 mins from my house. The place is infested with deer and turkey. I've been bush hogging the place for the owner. Riding the tractor was a real eye opener regarding the behavior of the wildlife as is riding the horses on the various trails I've cut. While driving my wife around in the truck to show her new trails we jumped three bucks (together) that were all 8 points or better. Yesterday we saw two nice bucks while on trail. I have permission to bow hunt the property and I willl be the only one there. ;)

I put my stands out about three weeks ago. I didn't go yesterday (opening day of bow season) because the ticks are so bad this time of year. When I was scouting the land I found some huge buck tracks. I can't wait until gun season gits here.

In one of my areas I have a pretty good rub starting up. I am hoping it is the same buck I missed last year.. he was pushing at least 230-240... Bow season starts 1 Oct here but I am driving up to my parents next week for bow season in Missouri....

I hope to shoot a deer for the first time with my bow. This is my second year shooting it and last year I missed two with it that I could have spit on. Man what an adrenaline rush it causes when you pull back on that string.. Sure a lot different than using a rifle...

I am getting more excited everyday it gets closer...

Slowtalker- enjoy your area because those seem to be scarcer every year... I hunt on Barksdale AFB, La and they let us register 3 areas and you get 200 yards around you that no one is supposed to come in on you. But you know how that goes to.. when you have over a 100 or more people hunting an area about 15000 acres then you probably gonna see someone...

anyways, I still love it and can't wait to be in a tree... sure is peaceful and helps clear the mind of everything....

Going to the gun range to sight in my rifle next weekend. Wife's brother has several acres down in the hill country and he's told me to come on down.

It's been a while since I've gutted a deer. Let's see, you start cutting at the top and work your way down?

Not too much longer till bow season. And thats a good thing, I'm almost out of deer meat. I went woodduck hunting today, but my lack of skeet shotting during the off season was apparent. Missed twice.

whoo, hoo. time to start shooting down some sky carp. ducks and geese open first of October round here. Just doves for now. If you can hit doves you can hit just about anything. It's been years since Ive hunted deer, probably just as well though, all the wasting disease and the like. Jason.

deer season is already open in SC. cant even imagine hunting in near 90 degree weather, being as how i grew up in michigan. anyhow, mentioning your son brought back a memory i must share. it was kind of a tradition to go rabbit hunting on thanksgiving day for me and my brother and dad. years back we were in kentucky at a family gathering on T-day. my dad and brother and i were getting ready to go out for some rabbits. my son who was around 4 at the time (now he is 27) asked if he could go with us and i told him he was too young to carry a gun. he says "ohhh i dont want to shoot them, but can i pet them before you do". my brother says "well that just took the edge off this hunting trip!" we didnt shoot any rabbits that year.

My ex-husband introduced me to deer hunting back in '96. Up until then, I had no idea that was even legal! :clonk:

Very next year, I was out there with my own 30-30 and bagged a fork-in-horn.

I hunted for the next 4 years and got one every year. I now have a .306 that I love. Nice and short and light. Fits me great. The kick is a little stronger than a heavier gun, though.

Haven't been out in a couple years, but oh man.....I want to go SO BAD!!!!!!

Reading these posts makes me remember dragging that last deer I shot up a hill......about killed me!

Haven't missed an opening day of (gun) deer season in 25 years! Our bow season opens the first of October. I love to chase them with the stick and string. My freezer is just about empty, so I hope the hunting gods are on my side this year

im ready !!! I have done some scouting and cant wait. I finished of the last of last years deer so my freezer is bare. I'm mostly a bow hunter using a compound but this year I have a vintage bear recurve so I hope to get my first primitive kill. :)

I've only been deer hunting once in my life, and that was when I was a kid. I did hunt every day that I had off during squirrel and rabbit season from the time I was 10 until I was around 16. I really enjoy small game hunting. Much more action than deer hunting.

But since I got my new "deer rifle", I'm actually considering it this year. I need more range practice first though. And I need to find out how long the shots are in South Texas. In S. Louisiana there would have been few long shots because of all the trees and brush (and people!). But in South Texas there are few trees that would pass for more than a shrubbery, so I have to think that the range opens up quite a bit, and a more accurate rifle and optics would probably be a good idea.

I wouldn't even know where to look for a squirrel down here, and rabbit hunting would probably get me bitten by a rattler.

I did figure out just how easy it would be to convert my AK back to "select fire" (Kalishnakov's design is very simple), so I'd could easily spray a buck with a dozen or so rounds for a sure kill. ;) (Just joking, LEO's)

Bow started Saturday. Saw three does that were out of range. Its been a couple months since I ran out of venison, so they all looked good.

Bow season starts here in Pa. on October 1 and I didn't see this post until after I posted a question here in Bench Racing about getting a trail camera as I'm heading to camp this weekend to see if my portable stand got taken from last year. I've been so fortunate to take a buck in bow season the past 11 years but the streak has got to come to an end soon! 2 years ago it was the last Friday of the season and last year it was the last day of the season when I got one!!

I also work part time at a pheasant/quail hunting preserve and the season just opened on Saturday. I'm sort of bummed because they need me to work every Saturday of the archery season except two so I definately won't be out as much this year. That's why I need that camera to help me scout!! Good luck to all you guys and safe hunting!
