My step-dad recently asked me if the body lines of a '67 GTO front end and a '67 El Camino Body would line up for a hybrid. I don't know and am asking all of you. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's close but not perfect. I knew a guy that did exactly this back in the 80's. It really looked good and was different from anything on the road.

You'll have to replace most of the outside sheetmetal in order to get the door seams etc. to line up (and to look decent). Although the structure is more or less the same underneath, all the contours and body gaps are specific to each GM division. The Fisher Body manual shows specifics on aligning panels for each different car line and they are different. You will definitely need the help of a talented bodyman. I have seem a '72 GTO & a '66 442 done as El Caminos and they looked great, but only the bodyman knows for sure how much blood, sweat and tears went into making it just right.

I have long planned on doing a '65 Buick Gran Sport "Camino". I have seen a few Olds 442s well done and it is real neat idea. I have laid it out and it is a HUGE undertaking. The hardest part is the quarters of course. You need to make them out of station wagon quarters welded to rear door skins! I do think it would be worth the work.

You know the sad part? I was offered a '65 El Camino that had the quarters cut off for free a few years ago, but no time to do the project. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/frown.gif
